Can anyone help? My cars turned into a donkey.

My car's turned into a fookin donkey

When Im driving i cant hear it but when I apply the brakes sofly it makes a squeaking noise. When I reverse slowly, it makes a really loud squeaking noise.

Also, is it ok for there to be a bit of play in wheels like I can move the wheel forwards and backwards a little bit before moving the driveshaft.

The noise has been there a while now(I think its happened from when i put the new wheels on and painted the calipers). Its passed its MOT recently so it cant be a serious problem but the sounds worse now...

Oh yea, the brakes work good and a mechanic said they have a couple of years life left in them iirc.

lol, cool sounding wheel you got there!

Take the pads out give everything a good clean and re-grease the guide pins ( i bet ones gone rusty ), this should help free the caliper.

Mine sounded like that for about 2 weeks once when a stone got jammed between the pad and disc, left a nice deep scratch, I knew what it was and it was cold, so i left it to fall out of it's own accord :O

I dont deserve another GTi you're right :(

What are the guide pins?

Also, are the front wheels meant to spin freely? Ive cleaned up the drivers side wheel with paraffin and greased the piston and the brake pads are touching the disks like before, not sure if this is normal though....

Heres a pic of one of the brake pads from the wheel on the video. Its got bits missing round the edges like they have crumbled off and it also has a crack going down one half of the pad but didnt show up on the pic.

the disks are in pretty good condition i think, very smooth and when i run my finger across(inner to outer) I can a feel a few very faint bumps. Same goes for the other side of the disk.

Does the brake pad look ok to you?

Looks ok, just the neven wear at the top. Mine had that due to the disk being badly rusted on the inside.

Found the problem!
Theres a metal strip that sticks out (top right of the pad in the pic) you can see in the pic that its shiny and hasnt got any brake dust on it. That must be because it was touching the disk, I got a ruler to check and it is sticking out a bit. Lucky, just getting dark and cold too!

Thanks anyway mate.
