Car History: what can you tell me?

Just bought my first GTi:

Red mid '99 'T' Reg (T974HWL), from a guy in Surrey.
Blacked out windows, Black multi-spoke alloys. Originally owned by a doctor in London; only did 8500 miles in the 1st 3 years!

Anyone see it before in the London - Surrey area or know anything of its history????? I drove 700 miles or so on Sunday & never spotted another SRi or GTi all day :(

If its fairly low mileage it probably wasnt out and about much. Though its got nice alloys and stuff so the last owner must have been into it. Have you got service history? Thats usually all you need to read to find out interesting stuff. Other than that, check all the bodywork and see if you can spot any obvious repairs. Mines been rear-ended at some point I think, because the gaps between the tailgate and back of the car are subtely not the same either side.
700 mile drive though, I thought I was bad enough with my 250mile drive, well done, did you drive it all in one go?

3 five minute re-fuel breaks at Birmingham (or nearby), Edinburgh & north of Inverness..... 10 & half hours passed quickly: not tiring or uncomfortable.... Lets see if I get any speeding tickets though: Must have passed around 30 cameras but more concerned about the ones I missed entirely

Great drive though, but like I said: I thought the car would have been faster: just needs keeping the revs on, but it thrives on corners, the faster round the bends the better!!

Sounds cool, good way to get used to the car though. I think you'll find its faster after you've had it a while, takes a while to get used to it. Start putting optimax through it and thrash it a bit and it should liven up.

10 and a half hrs Jesus, it takes me 9 and a half to get to Aberdeen from Norwich when i get home on leave and i thought that was bad. The only saving grace is that it's a fun drive mincing all the BMW's and other dudes who don't realise that the Mera GTI is an awesome car. Your car looks mint with the tints and black alloys, it's a good contrast.
