A local exhaust fitter told me that the catalytic on my 1.5l N16 was just under the header. Is there any way I can convert it to a sport one, i.e. higher performance header and catalytic?

You can De-Cat it by removing the cat out of the car it will not pass the mot and if the police pull you over you are screwed. You will need to fit the cat back on once a year so you can pass the MOT I need a decat pipe for my motor too

Are you sure there's a MOT in Malta Darren ??

The cat in the header can be removed by fitting a performance one. Hotshot Performance make one for the QG18DE, there has been discussion on here and people have said they are the same as the QG15DE so will fit yours. Don't take my word on that though.

When you remove the pre-cat you will have to move the second O2 sensor to behind the main cat to keep the ECU happy.

This should really be in the tuning section btw, not the styling ;)

as far as i'm aware with the Cat being under the manifold you can't replace it with a sports one unless you change the manifold aswell

Hotshot are the people to go to unless you get cutom made, in which case get a group buy made up, there will be a few folk interested

Sry, thought nbody was using the performance section!

We have a sort of Mot here, it called VRT. A vehicle older than 5yrs must do this test yearly; mine's due next yr for d first time. Removing the cat will fail the test.

That why i would prefer to substitute for a sport cat rather than decat completely.

I'll email hotshot. Maybe they will be interested, it may sell in the uk, and I may order one.

10x!

Plenty of cars have passed the emissions with the front cat removed. You still have the main cat under the car. Would it fail on a visual check or is it based on a tailpipe emissions test ??

The tester really keeps 2 d emissions test, although he checks the underneath as well. Will see!

Maybe! The tester once sent my father to fix rear mudflaps on his Hilux, otherwise he wouldn't have passed.

Just to set the record straight - If you submit your vehicle for MOT in the UK your car will not fail simply because it may be decatted. My car is decatted and has passed the exhaust emmisions test two years running - The pre-cat in the downpipe is usually enough to let you pass - If you have an ecotek valve then opening this up will help to lean the mixture and thus lower the emissions.

On another note, I'm not aware that the Police can do you for not having the cat in place - as long as you pass their roadside emissions check then I think you'll be OK.

The 1.5 N16 only has one CAT, the one on the manifold but the 1.8 version has two CATs. If you get a new header try and get the middel section from a 1.8 and fit a sports CAT to it.

Baz

PS To post in the performace section you need to be a paid up member

10x guys! I'll see from where i can get a used 1.8 manifold.

p.s.
Real helpful this forum!
