Celtic Tuning

Now first off I know there is a delay in membership processing (sent my payment via paypal a couple of weeks back) but anyway seen as I've not been granted access to post this in the right place If a mod can move this into the right section. Why don't I just wait till I do have access? Well thought I'd do this now while I remember..... so....

Celtic Tuning of http://www.celtictuning.co.uk/ has been one of the potential tuners I was looking for, for the N16. Anyone who doesn't know I now own a N16 3dr Sport+ 2.2 DITD (old Nissan Engine not New Renault one). I've been trying to keep the car looking as standard as possible, all be it relinquishing those nasty orange side repeaters for some nice clear smoked ones (thanks Rick!) Everything else had been totally standard. I'd looked at the possibility of getting a plug in module to increase the power from 110 bhp to 130/135 bhp approx depending on where you bought it from. For me though this didnt seem very much so I contacted Celtic Tuning with the question of if they could take the car up to a reasonable power level without compromising standard drivetrain etc. I sent them an email and got a response the next day telling me they could reliably remap the ECU and take power to 150 bhp approx and add and extra 65 ftlb torque. Price £360 with a 14 day moneyback guarantee if I wasnt happy. Money only to be exchanged after the work was carried out. And they would travel either to my work or home. Now depending on which site you visited the plug in modules range from £260 to £420 which all modules basically do the same thing. Well I booked the car in for a remap after checking that they were certain the car wouldnt lose it's settings due to disconnection from the battery for a prolonged period and was informed it was essentially like rewriting the bios chip on a PC motherboard and nothing could wipe it off unless another map was saved over the top.

It was 10 days of waiting patiently wanting the days to hurry up. 30th October arrived.........phone call...."really sorry but our technician is running late there has been a problem with the transport he'll be delayed about 5 hours" Now the guy was travelling up from Cornwall to the North East. Had the day off work so didnt really effect me much but it did put the blood pressure up a bit. But the time came and he pulled up to the house. Was happy to chat about any of the proceedures, went out for a quick test drive to make sure everything was running ok. Got back and he used a console unit to read the original settings on the ECU. He told me he usually mapped VW's/Seats/Skodas so wouldnt be doing it there and then himself, but the "Nissan Specialist!?!" back at the base was waiting for the original map to be sent though via 3G network. This he did....."it's going to be about an hour" he said "so I'll come knock on the door when I get the file back though" So off I went into the house...perched on the end of the settee glancing out of the window every few minutes staring at the TV but not really registering.... It seemed like a long hour.......It was! It ended up being an hour and a half. However he apologised for the delay, hooked the console back up to the ECU/Consult port and copied over the settings. Idled the car for about a minute while he said the ECU learned its new settings. Took the car out. Was the wait worth the...errr...wait.... sure was. What a difference its made to the car every gear pulls great it was smile city. Now i'm not saying it has been remapped to 150 bhp but until I get it on an rolling road I wont know but the important thing is its made the driveability of the car so much better. Other than the delays  its been money well spent and has kept everything looking standard(ish) as I wanted it. Best thing is he said its running around 90% of the increase till the ECU learns my driving patterns. After 300 miles he said it should of got used to it. Well worth the money. Would definately recommend them

I was reading this and the way you started off the thread, I was expecting it to be another horror story! Glad it went ok and its good you can feel a difference, does that mean that both the 110 and 136 engines can be remapped to nearly the same BHP?

The Nissan spec engine with 110bhp can be taken up to around 150bhp. This doesnt run an intercooler. Adding one well you could run more obviously. The Renault based 2.2 in the newer N16's (ones with revised front and rear lights) I think comes as an unintercooled 112bhp engine and a 136bhp intercooled version. They are the new common rail diesel blocks so no doubt you could expect more from the 112bhp version and certainly the 136bhp model you could probably expect up to around 200bhp maybe more?!? I do know they can tune the 1.9 cdi astra to about 230bhp on standard drivetrain and equipment. Best thing to do would be to send them an email. They also do hybrid turbo conversions with new zorst/manifold apparently this is the only difference visually you can spot from the conversion but when I asked your looking at around 2K for the work with the turbo on an exchange basis. You would be expecting figures in the high 200's. Can only imagine what the torque would feel like

Important thing is the response of mine is excellent. The revs hold for longer and the torque increase feels great. Soon as I can get some RR figures I'll post them up. Not that I mind what it gets as it the difference itself was worth the money.
