central locking issue solved

for years ive been having problems with my central locking going tits up, changed the solinoids for 3 diffrent units now, and at 1st all is well but after a while the central locking starts playing up again.
ive sat in my car in the rain on diffrent occasions and heared a dripping coming from the door, i always thought it was dripping around my skirts area as i could nver see a leak.
anyway, i left my door card off the passenger side as its pretty fucked where i had to saw it out because i didnt connect the door handles to the solinoids last time i changed the solinoids :O but this did me a favour, sat in my car in the rain last night, and found the dripping noise:) its only gushing in through the window rubber, so off to nissan to get a new window seel, so hopfully ive solved two problems with one hit :D:D

does water get into other peoples doors through the weather strip/rubber seal, that is on the outside of the door where the window comes up and down in? if that makes sense..
i got a dripping coming in so i asked nissan for one , £64 . i told him it was to stop water getting in my doors and fucking my locking up, the guy said that the strip wont solve it as its only ther to clean the window when it comes up  and its suposed to let water in and it all goes out of holes in the doors
whats the sense in that? i know why my locking is getting damp but theres no way of solving it, shurely not?

I`ve noticed a running/dripping sound coming from my passenger area that does my head in, as I`ve never been able to pinpoint it, so this is probably what it is.

Not had any c/locking probs (yet) though.

I`ll take the cards off & run a hose over the doors at the weekend to see what`s what. :)

i need a new seal for my window. my window seems to be a bit loose too. depending on how far my window is dowe when i put back up it leaves some lines on the window until i have to clean my windows. noticed more recently while driving i can hear the road especially if its raining outside from my driver door so guessing it's the seal.

i got same problem but i given up. my drivers side locks but doesnt unlock. the solenoid cant unlock it cos ------------- at this point i stopped listenin to the 'specialist' so now i jst unlock car with the key!!! shocker really, plus i got that many electric thingies behind my door card i not gonna go pokin around....not noticed any water damage tho

stupid question but how do you manage to unlock the car with the key? everytime ive tried the alarm goes off.

Don't ask me (I know you weren't, like...) I unlocked mine for weeks with the key with no problem because the master fob doesn't work. Then one night I heard an alarm going off - it wasn't until the next morning I realised I actually had one fitted...

its got to be a design flaw if its true..

It is, & it`s a fecking big one!

I took the card off today, but didn`t need to run any water over the door, as I immediately spotted the problem.

If you look at the B pillar end of the doorcard, you`ll see the strip that touches the window ends where it meets the rubber seal.

Now, if you look at the exterior strip, you`ll see the problem, as it ends inline with the interior strip, BUT, there`s approx. A HALF AN INCH GAP between the end of the strip & the window guide, that you can`t see from outside with the window closed, because it`s hidden behind the rubber seal!

Here are some pics.

so what your saying fred is its fucked central locking forever, and the posibility of rusty doors from the inside:mad:

It unfortunately looks that way, yes.

But, saying that, I couldn`t see any signs of corrosion on the locking rods or the inside of the door. (I only looked at the drivers door though, but I`ll do the passenger door in a bit).

I'd tape up anything that's going to be affected and bosh a load of cavity wax inside the doors. Should solve rust issues. As for the central locking there's not a lot you can do except just try and seal it from moisture with electrical tape etc but it isn't going to make a huge amount of difference.
