Central Locking-ness

Hey All

I have central locking on my SI, but it doesn't have a fob to control it.
I was thinking of buying a fob and receiver, removing the key chamber from the passenger door & smoothing etc, and using the fob receiver to yank the rod that unlocks the doors. The passenger key hole doesn't work anyway  :(

Before i go and do all this, is there any other way I can get a remote control to activate my central locking without breaking the bank?

Also, if not, will my idea work? after thinking about it in more depth, i'm not sure how i'd get it to pull the rod in the right direction...

hmmm My dads si has central locking but its not "Remote" You cxan get kist on ebay and that but ive never used them. Fortunatly my GTi has Remote central locking maybe you could get the motors from a scrap GTI

I added remote locking to my car as i only had the normal central locking from the key in the door. There is a threat on here somewhere about it as someone else tried the same and there was some help given, not got a clue who it was though. Mine is linked to an alarm I brought, not that expensive, just something to warn away the opportunists really, so you can do it for not much money if you do it all yourself.

if its got central locking then surely the door locks already have the locking solenoids?

is it possible to remove the receiver from a car and put it in another and if so where is it. Because i still am breaking my almera and it has remote central locking with 2 fobs?

Toad do a kit called an RK30 which is a remote locking module. Look to pay 59.99 plus fitting.

If the central locking activates using the key from both doors then thats all you need. If the locking only activates form the drivers side then a solenoid motor will need to be fitted in order for the remote kit to unlock both doors. Look to pay 19.99 for an aftermarket motor.

I'm not sure whether the passenger side door unlocks all the doors, or just its own, as the key chamber has been broken since before I got the car. Might have to take the door panel off and tug some rods!

cov_racer, i'm guessing the receiver will be in one of the door panels, not sure where it'll connect to though, but if you do find it and think it'll fit, please lemme know! :)

Mines a 5 door btw, dunno if that makes it more difficult for ya? :(
