Changing Front Shock Absorbers

Not sure if I'm posting in the right place but I'm looking for more advice from the experts. I noticed last week I was getting a bit of a slight knocking from the off side front. It sounded like a shock on the way out and when I checked it there was an obvious oil loss from that strut. Now after a few days the knocking is very bad and just to confirm my suspicions I visited my local kwik fit to make sure I was right and to find out a price. Well I was but at £280 for new shocks and wheel alignment I thought I'd make other arrangements! Ive ordered a new pair on ebay for £74 and was intending to get someone to change them for me. Is it a very labour intensive job and how long should it take if you know what you're doing? Also is it safe to drive short hops in its current state?

Thanks

Should be fairly easy. This pic will help.

yh pretty straightforward mate follow nuggets diagram, if you can't get hold of the coil compressers then you plus and strong mate would be sufficient and a set of deep ring spanners from machinemart

If you're going the DIY route then soak everything in WD40 right now. It should penetrate enough to make life easier when you come to do the job. Simple set up on the fronts as per the pic. Just a bit of brute force and probably a cut knuckle or two. Have fun!

Thanks for all the advice. Kwik Fit said I need the wheel alignment done afterwards. Is that right?

It's advisable. A lot of places will check your alignment for free nowadays. You'll have to pay for adjustments but the initial check shouldn't cost you anything.
