Chavs nicked my key today

So I was in a bit of a rush this morning, and without much thought I shoved my car key in my pocket while I sorted out some music to listen to while walking to college. About 80 metres in, I noticed my key wasn't in my pocket, so I looked round, to see 2 chavs picking up my key, and running off. Turns out it had fallen through a hole in my pocket. They were too far away for me to catch up, and there were 2 of them, so I had to wait about 2 hours by my car to get a spare, then I had to spend the day going to the scrappy to get new lock barrels, and fitting them. Bloody rude chavs could have given the key back, saved me a day and £20.

Also, I'm still worried that the chavs might spot my car and try to break in, seeing as I park there almost every day, so how do I reprogram my immobiliser? I got a chip in the key from the scrappy, so what do I do?

Cheers,

Phil

stored in the ECU i believe. So you'll need the ECU from the car where you got the keys from. I'm sure someone will confirm or prove me totally wrong though :)

I could swear I've read somewhere on here about reprograming the ECU to recognise a different chip... something about the indicators flashing and flicking switches withing 5 seconds and stuff...

Only way to proram a new key to the original NATS is at Nissan unfortunately

A lot :(

Are you using two keys then? one to open and one to drive?

I'm guessing its too late to go back and get the ignition barrel?

Yeah, two keys :( Stupidly I also forgot to salvage the boot lock, so the chavs could nick my sub :S

We tried to remove the ignition barrel but it was more hassle than it was worth really, it has 2 shear screws which need to be drilled out, and it took long enough just to get to the steering column on the scrap car.

This evening i'm going to take the boot lock barrel out, so that you have to get into the car to open it. Probably about the best I can do...

I wonder if I could take the immobiliser reciever ring and put it somewhere else? Maybe swap the chips over so I have to put the door key in the ashtray?

Maybe i'm being too paranoid...

you not recognise there faces? id try and hunt the little cunts, does the college have cctv? might be worth checking security

hmm if the cost is the same as upgrading your alarm - upgrade your alarm which will forego the need to use the NATS.
Go for clifford alarm, may also decrease your premium if its a thatcham.

Did you try your insurance company? Mine cover for exactly this sitaution. Will pay to replace everything you need to because the car is very easy to rob if they don't. But I'd ring up anonymously because if they don't do it they may not cover you for theft because your key has been knicked...

You could take the boot trim off and disconnect the linkage from the lock barrel to the lock itself, then the barrel wont do anything.

I'm only insured for third party (not fire and theft), more than won't care if it gets nicked...

Well firstly I'm only 18, so I needed it as cheap as possible, secondly I decided that if it did get stolen or burnt it'd cost less in the long run if I just bought a new car...

My insurance is £1440 already...
