Chequer plate on back shelf

Whats your thought son this.
Thinking of fitting some aluminium chequer plate into the recess and mounting my 6x9's into that. I think it could look pretty good.

ANyone know where i can the chequer plate from other than ebay?
Or has anone got any pics of something similiar?

Cheers

Immitation plate or thick metal like sump guards, heel plates etc? The thick stuff will weigh the shelf down a lot and the immitation stuff will look rubbish. Seen it done on install floors and sides on 'show' cars but its upto you at the end of the day.

NOOOOOO!!!!!

2 reasons:

1) As has already been said, it will weigh a ton (& probably knacker the support shelves @ either end when you shut the boot or go over a bump & it crashes about)!

2) You`ll get a horrendous reflection off it in the rear window when the light hits it a certain way (look @ the reflection off your dash in the windscreen in bright sunlight & multiply it by about 100 times for chequer plate, you wont see a thing! ).

Individual: Yes

Functional/Practical: NO!

Just my opinion. :P

If you want to make ur shelf look more showcarish (making up words now), then simple buy some fabric the same coulour as ur car (or colour scheme) and fill the gaps with that.

You could cut pieces of card or thin light wood to the shape of the recess (few mm smaller) then cover with spray addesive and then lay the fabric. Could try mock leather, suede, felt or even fur if it tickles ur fancey......

Trust me, would look better then chequer plate.

The reason i was thinking of doing it was to fill the holes that were previously cut out by the old owner.

I'll think i'll give it a miss based on peoples opinions so far.

The best idea i've had is to cover it with mesh to hide my speakers. just the recessed bit.
