being looking at some wheels lately and was cosidering chrome ones as they look well nice but have heard that after a while they start to flake and erode due to salt and other substances on the roads is this true and has anyone got chrome wheels on there cars and come across this problem dont want to go buy a set then they look crap after a while.

Will depend on the quality of the chrome

Ie if you buy the cheapest set you can find , dont be suprised if you have problems down the line. While if you were mad enough to buy a set of Veilside wheels in chrome , you should be shocked if theres any problems since there chrome is just something else compared to the normal

hmm still not sure veilside would cost a bomb how about shadow chrome whats the difference? apart from the darker finish.

They would cost a bomb thats true & I dont think they even make them in 4x100

Shadow chrome though

Wolfrace / Asiatec wheels ?

Cos ive got Shadow chrome wheels , which aint chrome at all

DO NOT BUY CHROME WHEELS

I bought a set of bk racing ones 900 quid, over the summer they were great two months of winter and they were absolutely F*CKED...Get them for the summer if you want but do not even think about it in the winter, i just had to get a new set of rims after 6 months cos they were that stuffed...

I always heard about people sayin dont buy chrome wheels they'll be f*cked after a while an i thought nah theyll be ok and not even 6 months and the chrome was flakin off them in big chucnks where the spokes met the rim, i managed to sell them yesterday for 300 quid had to know a lot off cos some of them needed refurbing badly even if they dont flake they are an absolute b*stard to keep clean i spent 8 hours cleaning my wheels and the dirt still wouldnt come off - it only came off slightly with peek metal polish - forget about it budging with soap and water or alloy wheel cleaner

it's the grit they throw down in winter for the grandads who cant go round a roundabout without spinning that does it

just incase....

DO NOT BUY CHROME WHEELS
(IF YOU DO USE THEM BETWEEN JUNE AND AUGUST THEN TAKE THEM OFF)

PS. DO NOT BUY CHROME WHEELS
PPS. DONT SAY I DIDNT WARN YOU

Bought 17 inch chrome alloys last september.
I recommend you dont buy chrome unless you are willing to clean them once or twice per week.
Otherwise they will quickly look like you've had them for years.
I like chrome personally and love the way they look when all polished up.
I didnt realize when I bought them how fast they get dirty and the effort it takes to clean them but I think its worth it.

Well chroming reacts to water and i think it flakes when your in the winter even worse they put salt on the floor so it will make the chrome come off even quick

Thanks to paying attention in Science lol
They look nice i think :) but a bugger to clean as /\ said

'shadow chrome' is a paint finish, wheels first sprayed black, then a light coat of silver over the top, just like normal wheels to clean and look after

i cleaned mine 3 or 4 times a week in winter but they were still too bolloxed unless you are gonna clean em every day in winter dont bother or like i said just buy em for summer, i might have kept mine if they were not so rotten just for summer but they are a pain in the arse to clean thats why i just got a plain silver finish you dont have to clean em for a month and when you do they just wipe clean

anyway

DONT BUY CHROME WHEELS

Dont buy wolfrace ones especially, theres a new set in work and you can see where they havent sprayed at the tops of the spokes as they are deep dish (not sure if thats the term). also, chrome wheels dont come with a warranty. not from halfords anyway, and thats saying something.

they are really nice things to have
but dont think like i did and think they'll be ok and get away with it
that thought cost me 600 quid basically cos i had to get a new set of rims
get some for summer then in autumn clean em up and flog em

dont ever buy eny thing with chrome on it waighs a tone and is only a low friction coatingbut if ur gona be a fool and buy it eny way - go for duplex crackfree/decrotive coatings and this will last a life time i can put my car on it
but the tits at holfords wont have a clue wat ur onabout tho
ps i work fro a plating company i do bright nickel and spraying

ells

Always thought Chrome on every day drivers was a bit OTT anyways to be honest. I wouldnt be able to look after the things lol , i get pissed off at how easy Silver gets dirty , let alone chrome.

Goin for a Non Metallic Dark Bronze on me new ones :D

I guess chorme will not suit the mera its more kind of a BMW X5, Landrover Discovery, Hummer or a Lincon Navigator thing. It loos nice on the Navigator and Hummer :) I would not mind one
