Clutch fitting guide

I will be needing to install a new clutch in my Gti in the near future. I have done a lot with engine swaps, bearings, head work, and any number of welding and cosmetic jobs but never have had the need to drop a gearbox.
How easy is it to do? What kind of parts will I need to do the job? Gearbox oil, driveshaft seals, release bearing?
If there's a write-up somewhere that I could refer to that would be great but I have browsed and come up short.
I did try putting this in the Gti technical section but I have insufficient priveleges.

Thanks in advance

Its all in the FSM dude.

Its easy though. Remove battery and intake, remove short shaft, remove linkages, remove starter, remove underbrace, support engine with either a jack or an engine hoist, unbolt bell housing, drop the box, fit clutch and then fitting is reverse of removal.

Id recommend changing the seals while the box is out, same with the release bearing. Box oil is 75w90 and capacity is around the 4 litre mark.

Couple of hours if you have use of a ramp, allow an afternoon if doing it on stands.

Cheers dude. I saw your thread and it made me think that I should get around to doing it soon. Pretty sure my MPG has fallen with it slipping.
I haven't got a copy of the FSM on my new laptop and can't get anything off the old one. I'll download it now and have a little look.

Really easy bud... can be done in about 3 hours, as long all goes to plan.

And as we all know; these jobs go to plan every time. :P
May have a go over Easter weekend. That and get the cam shifters not the Stagea. Lot to do
Getting so fed up with it I was looking at buying a Mondeo Estate this afternoon. Bad times.

I have just fitted a lighten flywheel so had to drop the box,as they say its easy, only part that i find is a PITA is lifting and sliding/lining it back on.
