Well Ive been expecting this for a while but today she finally gave up on me!

Ironic thing is that I had just picked up the new clutch to be fitted lol.

The entertaining part of my breakdown was that I happend to stop where the hookers are and I got "asked the time" by a coulple lol.

Milage is just over 77,000 and the car is comming up on 7 years old, plus where I live is very hilly and they are steep hills!

85000 miles still on the oringinal clutch and thats with towing a car trailer quite often!

how long you had yours? ive had mine just over a year and put 20,000miles on it, but biting point was high when i got the car so must have been driven badly before me lol.

dub_almera: this is costing me £50 for a brand new one from Transco and getting it fitted at the weekend by my brother so free labour lol.

If it's not adjusted properly it's gonna wear out sooner!

when i get the new one fitted ill make it known that i want it checked so that its adjusted to how it should be if its not already :)

my cluth is long, like feels really long in length you press down rather than it going straight to biting point doesnt slip though dunno if thats normal as i drive alot of brand new cars for the company, iii nottingham is FKNNNNNN SH*****T for roads me lass lives there never seeeeen so many pot holes hills pointless speed bumps, her mate lives in an area i say i wont drive now there is about 5hills literall first gear to crawl up and about 200metres strraight up / straight down i wouldnt dare live there

Although this is not the way to check if your clutch is adjusted properly,if you look at the pedals the clutch pedal should sit slightly higher than your brake pedal!

the GA almeras do seem to have problem clutchs, hardly ever see or hear of a GA engined p10/p11 but almera ones seem quite common, maybe something to do with younger drivers?

mines on 79k now, not sure if i should be expecting it to go or not as it seems fine but you do see a few around that mileage with new clutchs or needing one

yeah my clutch is slightly higer up than the brake pedal!

sprint: it depends on how it was drive before i had the car, ive given it some stick to be honest but not to the extent that would force it to wear out quicker...just wear and tear i say, car was on 57,000 miles when i got it and about 6 months after i got the car i started having problems getting it into reverse 1st time and sometimes 1st but now the clutch has broke we'll see what happens when i get the new one fitted lol.

Ropaz99: http://www.transcofactors.co.uk/ dont know if that will help as it mostly says to phone your order in.

got my car back today, feels better than it ever has!

need to adjust my clutch cable after 100 miles back to where it should be but the guy at a garage had adjusted it on purpose but to be honest i like where the biting point is now lol.

Good stuff make sure you break it in for a couple of hundred miles!

yeah thats what im doing, avoiding big hills like the plaugue and being gentle with my gear changes lol.

just wondering if i have to adjust the clutch back to normal or can i keep it low down?

Happened to me a few years back, was on the way to get a new one fitted!

i just got my new 1 and mine at the same height as break pedal and my biteing point is high ??
might need to get the cable adjusted?

mine was adjusted to put the biting point about half an inch off the floor.

Slick Rick: ive been looking at the old Haynes manual and apparently you can adjust the height postition of the actual pedal which to me sounds pretty good as it can make the driving postition more comfortable :D

That's what i did. The clutch doesn't have much bite so i shortened the cable by tightening or loosening the nut(cant remember) inside the engine then screwed in the nut by the clutch pedal a bit so i don't have to push my foot a meter to change gear

this weekends little job is to adjust mine up a bit then drop the pedal down :D
