Coilover Help

So im about to try and fit my coilovers today but i just wondered if anybody has any last minute tips and advise. they are the k-sport ones from the group buy. i read dobo's advise bit about them and i assume for the fronts that i can hammer out the old studs and put the old almera ones on so as to keep my strut brace?
Any other tips/advise welcome as i'm a novice and this is the biggest thing ive done so far car wise!

lol mate i was in your shoes a few weeks ago, my top tips are. make sure you tighten the rings on the coilovers before you put them on and do everything up tight when you put them back on, especially the camber adjusters. good luck. once you've fitted them is your tracking much out?

yeh your tracking will be a good way out mate. the studs you can use form the standard suspension dont fit that well i used some putty metal to help them grip (as they apear to have a slightly smaller spline) while i tighentened them up. also dont do the studs up to tight as they will snap :O(i speak from experiance) . they should really come with some torque figures for you to use.

well erm lol i got one on! it took me most of the day as the studs were so tight that one of them (the long one) rounded off. i had to use a hand saw (which was almost blunt) to get it off. So tomorro or a.s.a.p i'm gunna source a dremmel electric saw thing (or similar), saw the two 12mm bolts that are rounding off on the otherside due to the same problems. Then maybe, if possible, saw down the strut brace brackets to accomodate the smaller screws, seen as ive now had to saw my old one off (plus i was hitting it as hard as possible and it wouldnt come out of the old shock anyway).

Are the k-sport screws easier to pop out if needs be?

And i dont think i'm having a problem with the brake hose and abs sensor cables. i put the supplied bracket on pointing inwards, pushed the brake pipe in there and cable tied the abs sensor to the existing brake pipe and it seems secure and trouble free.

I also had to move the camber adjusters inwards a bit as so they fitted in the hole, before i did this they were slightly underneath if you understand where i'm coming from? Anybody else have to do this?

lastly this first front side was more of a test so when i come to do the other side i'm going to start over again, adjust the coilover so its a bit lower (i left it on the highest setting about an inch and a half) and tighten them up again proper good! wish me luck!

well i just put it al on and let the garage set up mmy chamber and tracking. as for the studs yes the k sport ones come out a lot easrier as they have never been tightened up on. and my standard studs where a bitch to get out used a couple of nuts and washers to spread the load down the threads then hit it for ages with a lump hammer till it poped out loads of WD40 and it will come out of the spline.

i dont think you will be able to modifiy the sturt to fit the new studs mate or nissan would of just designed the strut to fit the standard suspension with all the studs same lentgh.

erm check yell.com for local engineering tooling suppliers and askthem if they do any? but i dont know to be honest mate

hmm surprised you lot are having to hit em.....ideal way is to soak em in Penetrating Oil or WD40.....then using either a rachet set with a long handle, or if ya have a long bar stickin that over yer normal ratchet handle, get yerself more leverage, and it'll open no probs...;)...didn't have to use any hitting on mine...

couldn't be arsed to piss around with the Strut Brace, have just completely removed it...will either get a new base for em made, or buy an aftermarket Brave...

think your getting the wrong idea mate, only hitting was when removing the 2 longer old studs from the stanard suspension (so they can be swapped onto the k-sports to fit the strut). ie once the complete suspension unit is off hitting the top of the stud to remove it from the top mount.

well i couldnt get the bolt out at all so ive given up on that one for now. Luckliy my friend works with metal and all that jazz so he's going to adapt my strut to fit these bolts. he's made whole struts from scratch before to go on his old primera so he knows what he's doing. I'm gunna attempt the rear today, hopefully will be alot less hassle than the fronts were!
