Curious, how would a GTi fair V a VTS

I'm curious about the outcome of a Mera GTi and a Saxo VTS at a drag strip. Has anyone done this? The VTS is ever so light and has a quicker 0-60 time on paper(7.7ish), but after 60 does the 2ltr engine win(7.9), or does the VTS continue moving away due to it's weight?

VTS's are very quick for a 1.6. This question applies for all 2 litre cars with 7.9 claimed figure really, such as Fiesta ST' and Focus ST 170's. The Primera GT also(8.5), with a second slower to 60, after 60 would it catch up?

Just random pondering, thanks if you know anything.

I've beat one on the strip but not by massive amount and beaten my mates on a private road off course ;) from standstill, to behind him on road, to sitting at 3rd gear and going for it on the private road, pretty even but then the GTi pulls away at 70-80ish.

I was suitably impressed with the pull Stu's GTi had up at 70mph, I think he was in 4th. I would liken it to my DCi around those speeds.

My best mate's got a VTS, he's got some fancy header and some group N race exhaust, an intake and some other bits.. The standard mods really, and I must admit it pulls really well. I'd liken it to Tommo's GTi (the only GTi I've been in that actually felt pretty quick)

I raced one a few times @ Elvington a couple of years ago, before I had my cams. He beat me a couple of times and I beat him more times! They are pretty quick, but I think it depends on whose driving.

would think it would be fairly similar. haven't really gone up against one in the mera tbh.

although in my sunny GTi i did and the sunny pissed on it! bit quicker up to 60, but after that there was no chance for the saxo. but god the sunny did seem fast above 60 ;)

heres a bit of a comparison i know of.

a mate had a modded VTS, 160 bhp ish (manifold, decat, bbox, filter, cai, superchip, cams) ran 15.2 at shakespeare county raceway, rear stripped out. pablo who used to be here a few years ago, ran 15.3 in his gti, stripped, ssac and a backbox.

^ blimey! would have thought he saxo would be quicker than that at that power/weight.

look at wezz's 1/4 as well. only breathing mods, stripped - 14.8 ;)

I reckon the Saxo hasnt got enough grunt, quick off the mark, but 60-100mph is where the torque/power counts, so the GTi wins.

I remember the blue VTS at shakeys march 08, was a quick bugger off the line.

note: pablos gti was stripped. not raceworx stripped, but stripped. if memory serves raceworx ran 15.3?! i think?

chris saxo was fast but my micra gave him a riun for his money on the touge he wouldnt quit raving about it lol :D

horses for courses the saxo has weight the gti has torque to me it would all be in the launch.. get a good launch the gti should pull it nog or somthing its gona be hard to pull back against the saxo once its rolling..
