cv boot

Its not too bad a job, it depends how hard it is to get the hub nut off really, thats probably the hardest part, as I struggle to get it off unless I have a nut runner!

Theres a guide in Haynes on how to do it :)

can get split ones save dismantling, put it in place, glue it then fill with grease and your done. never used one but spoke to a mechanic who seemed to like them, although could have been just because it saved time.

I used to try the split ones, but never got on with them and was lucky to get through the re-test with what I'd bodged together. But then I'm hopeless with anything that involves gluing stuff together tidily. In the end I found a lad who does jobs like that for the price of an egg and cress sandwich and he fits the proper ones ne bother

to be honest if they are the same of simular to the petrol variants they aint bad to do at all. wouldnt try it though if ya dont feel confident. i did mine in around 15 mins start to finish. but i did have the use of air tools.

the tool for putting on strethcy boots works. its like a cone that goes over your drive shaft (outer cv end) and then just roll the boot up it. the boots are really stretchy.

he boots are really stretchy.

That will vary on model i think. Simply because we ended up taking the driveshaft out of the renault, putting it in a vice to hold steady and using the cone method, only managed to get it over with a ton of gearbox oil and a shed load of effort. Not exactly 'stretchy'.

if your gonna do it yourself without the cone make sure you but a new driveshaft circlip, DO NOT USE THE OLD ONE!! i made the mistake on my primera of tryin to use the old one but it came loose, the driveshaft loosened from the hub and i lost all drive, was on my way back from airport and had to stack the car onto a roundabout, and fuked my bumper cos i didnt see a 2ft pothole behind the kerb.

the driveshaft nut shouldnt be too bad but make sure you have a 32 mm socket, n your 'supposed' to buy a new nut as well.

but for what some back lane garages charge i would just get someone else to do it, watch him do it then you know for next time.

ps, dont use the zip ones, ive used a few of these and they just dont last
