DCi won't Start after stalling, FIRE!??

Hi everyone,

Hope you had a great day, enjoying the long awaited sun, unfortunately it wasn't such a great day for me. :(
Driving for 30 minutes just nere & there around town, got to a main road just near my house & stopped at a set of lights, when it was time to go I stalled (it was a slight incline), & as it was Friday had quite a que behind me so I just tried starting it as I would normally (not turning the ignition full off).

A guy driving by said with a stong accent, "is it not firing," (my other half says he said the cars on fire & gets out lol), I popped the bonnet had a good look at the bottom & was nothing, no smoke, puff, bang etc. when i attempt to start it, it is ticking over lights come on as normal but then a continuous tick sound that it. :(

HELP PLEASE :( :( :(

Do you hear one or multiple clicks? The former means your starter motor, the latter the battery.

Feeeew... Thanks bud, theirs multiple clicks. Just had the new new Bosch battery in 3-4 months. I got in a panic for nothing! :)

Well if the battery is new then it probably isn't that then. Any codes?

Bet the battery connections are loose if battery is good.

Happened my mate trying to show off infront of two hotties in his rx8 one day to my amusement. Qiuck fiddle at terminal's and she fired up (car not women haha)

The only code I had was p0404, this was a few weeks ago. Will see if there's any new codes. The posts below might lead to some clues..?

Is this the eml code when egr is blanked 'p0404 exhaust gas recirculation control circuit range' I haven't blanked mine yet but since I've had the gutted cat on its appeared & when I put my foot down a black cloud of smoke appears not pure black thick smoke but light, I have been using the new v-power too don't know if that's got anything to do with it, any ideas..?

Thanks for the input, I will clean the intake with Wynns. Since my post I have done the ECU reset & I have actually driven hard hitting 4k & above the smoke was getting thicker, but after a few boosting, its noticeably quicker & it's not smoking anymore! My MPG seems to have returned to normal, & the EML has not come on yet will let you know how I get on, as even with the above mentioned problem at times the EML wouldn't appear, I did notice somtimes when turning ignition to start there was a second or 2 delay before it fired up (EGR related), & it was 30 seconds or so after when driving off that the EML would appear again.

Looks like it was just clogged up, as I've not driven it hard since I bought her over 6 months back, & I just travel short journeys to work 1-2 miles at the most, & turbo use is normally during overtakes & from time to time foot down just for fun. Another thing was my car was not driven for around 2 months when the turbo/exhaust were fitted, which probably allowed the build up to settle.

I swear I checked the net & found a few forums & found some issues with the p12 dci.

I managed to jump start the car, Woohoo!!!! Drove it 10 miles, all is good... Until you try starting the car again, the same continuous tick seems to be happening, I think when the dude said fire he may have seen some sort of 'spark', will check terminals & earth wire to the gear box tommorow.

Oh yeah an check the earth to the gearbox.

You Don Ed!!!! Thanks :)

The wire was connected. Give it a good tug left & right & snapped off, got some tape out to & walla.

Pulls like mad now!!!! Low down torque is back (was kicking in at way past 2k revs before), starts & Idles much smoother, mpg back to normal, exhaust is quieter & sounds much better when power comes in, not a hint of smoke etc the list is endless.... Thanks for the input guys!!! :D

Get it welded up proper. Glad it's sussed now mate. Although I'm surprised it made that much of an improvement.

Yeah me too, I thought my torques were lost due to the decat & 2.5 exhaust..? But it seems the power kicks in just like standard+better.

It made a night and day difference when I replaced my broken one. New ones are peanuts off ebay.

V, get in on dyno and you'll know for sure. Just for the reference, where's that gearbox earth is located exactly?

Stick you head under the car, it's obvious, you'll see it right away.
