dont quite have ANY spare money due to just having to pay out £300 to replace the cat on my renault, due to it failing.

£300 for a cat? :eek: blimey

My mates just had to pay £70 for a CV boot for a clio, sure the almera ones are only £20 odd

well combination of £100 to be recovered (RAC cancelled my subscription and didn't tell me!!!!) and £220 by kwik-fit to replace the cat, which i had to pay as i needed the car 2day for work, and was the only cat i could source on a sunday

vin code

hi

i went to the nissan uk web site and asked them and within 1 hour they
had replied with the answer,they even gave me information i didnt ask for
like the colour of the vehicle and paint code.

DIGITS 1,2,3 .THE FACTORY WHERE BUILT (mine SJN-SUNDERLAND)
DIGITS 4,5,6 .THE BUILD DATE (mine FAA-FEBRUARY 2000)
DIGITS 7,8,9 . MODEL NUMBER-I GUESS (mine N16)
DIGIT 10 . IS THE SPECIFICATION (MINE U-FOR EUROPEAN)
THE REMAINING 7 DIGITS IS YOUR UNIQUE VEHICLE NUMBER.

hope this helps

why did you need recovered because your cat broke? =rip it off and drive!

why did you go to kwik fit? =cowboys!

why did you pay £220 for a cat? you could have got a cat from a motor factor for £50-£70! =madness!

why did you buy a renault? :lol:

I've been asked by a few people to post this info to try and clear up what phases the vehicles are and whats covered in the manuals . Starting with Vin numbers they start at number listed and move up.

Phase 1

All Models except GTi JN1***N15U0000001 >
Gti JN1***N15U0100000>

Phase 2

JN1BCAN15U0101001
JN1BAAN15U0101001
JN1BFAN15U0101001
JN1FCAN15U0120101
JN1FAAN15U0150101
JN1FFAN15U0110001
JN1ECAN15U0530101
JN1EAAN15U0570101
JN1EFAN15U0510101
JN1EEAN15U0510101
JN1BCAN15U0530101
JN1BAAN15U0550101
JN1BFAN15U0520101

Phase 3

JN1BCAN15U0101001
JN1BAAN15U0150001
JN1BFAN15U0101001
JN1FCAN15U0150001
JN1FAAN15U0200001
JN1FFAN15U0150001
JN1ECAN15U0600001
JN1EAAN15U0600001
JN1EFAN15U0600001
JN1EEAN15U0600001
JN1BCAN15U0600001
JN1BAAN15U0600001
JN1BFAN15U0600001

Now how to work out what the vin number means, so for exmaple

JN1-B-A-A-N15-U-0-XXXXXX
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

1. JN1 Nissan Vehicle Japan build
SJN Nissan Vehicle English build
VSK Nissan Vehicle Spain build

2. Body type
B=4 door
F=5 door hatch
E=3 door hatch

3. Engine type
A=GA14DE
C=GA16DE
E=SR20DE
F=CD20

4. A=2 wheel drive

5. Model code = N15

6. U=Destination

7. 0=Stop Gap no mean

8. Vehicle Serial Number

So this means JN1-B-A-A-N15-U-0-XXXXXX is a 4door with GA14DE, 2 Wheel drive build in japan.
Also if you have N15U09XXXXXX it means the vehicle is trial built and doesn't following any real spec. Also you can do the same with the Mode code as well, this is the long number of the chassis plate. This number gives a better break down to colour, trim, etc etc I may post it one day

Manual Info and a basic statement of what they cover.

Main Manual (July 95)
SM5E-ON15EO
SR20DE engine (high port)
GA14/16 engine
Base manual all doors

Supplement 1 (April 96)
SM6E-N15SEO
SR20De engine introduction on 3 door H/B,
CD20E engine, NATS V2.0 on diesel models
low washer fluid warning system deleted,
dead lock system added

Supplement 2 (Jan 98)
SM8E-N15SEO

interior/exterior changes, side airbags

Supplement 3 (Feb 99)
SM9E-N15CEO
Changes on GA14/GA16/SR20 and CD20 engines
airbag & pre-tensioner seatbelt modifications (consult)
Remote Locking change

it doesnt, its on the vin PLATE but not in the vin, will be 3 digits like KH3, AR2, etc etc.

Ahhh that explains it lol. Thanks Hally.
my last car, the vin number also showed the factory colour, so thought it was the same for all cars.
