Diagnose my brakes

Noticed today that braking at high speeds (70mph) causes the car to vibrate and shudder alarming and through the pedal.

Thinking rotors are warped? How much should i look to pay to get the rotors and pads replaced? Don't really want to have to drive the 180 miles back home on rear brakes only...

Discs are about £50 pads are £20? Don't know exact off the top of my head.

And there really easy to change, 1 hour max.

I would do it myself but i'm down here staying a mates uni flat so don't have the space or tools which means i'm gonna have to get the monkeys at Euromaster to do it.

as GTi kurt says, max £70 for discs and pads up front, be them mintex pads, nipparts or god knows who else! not too much moolah though.

Aye mate, mine shudders a lot if i brake hard from say 90 down to 50, with just enough pressure to stop the lockup it goes crazy!

Warped discs.
buypartspbuy standard discs, not much at all
get some standard pads, as said about 20£

make sure the caliper bolts are nipped up too!

had it on a customers BMW last year some time

top caliper bolt on his N/S wasn't nipped up totally and was causing the whole caliper to judder on itself.

Quicky D

I had this in my GTI last year turned out to be a sticking caliper rather thand a warped disc, I could be wrong but I think with a warped disc, it would vibrate at speed, not just when you brake...

Well got the car back from ATS today, new discs (old ones were completely worn), new pads and new rear wheel cylinders as the old ones were leaking. Now i've just got to bed the new lot in.

Bedding brakes in is a total pain. Always scared that some twat will pull out in front of you and you'll have to brake hard and screw them up, or at the very least get sqealing discs.

My way of bedding them in is left foot braking, go for a little run of about a mile, with your left foot resting on the pedal, not hard enough to make the engine struggle, just enough so that they lightly touch the discs.

Been doing this for years, & never had a problem. :)
