did the gti's come with cobra fobs as standard?

hi, i have had my gti for a few months now and love it. only problems are this, the car has been delocked all round and i only i 1 cobra fob and 1 key, now the cobra system doesnt appear to be an alarm it just opens the central locking. i have never herd any sort of beep or even herd it go off! i bought a new fob from ebay but looking into it i need another thing to program the fob. ive tried holding down the 2 buttons till the light stays on then pressing lock but it dont work. would it be a better idea to jus buy a cheap alarm system from ebay and install it along side the existing system so i have more than one fob?
would this cause any problems?

No if you have a Cobra Fob its aftermarket all GTi's came with NATS a CAT 1 Alarm and Immobiliser! Some times people lose the master fob and without that you cant program new remotes into the system. So a whole new control box has to be bought from nissan which is very expensive! Which sometime its cheaper to get a Clifford or or type installed!

the nats system is based on cobra alarms, same system used as in lotus elise's as standard, i fit them to my knowledge you cant program a 'aftermarket' cobra fob to a standard system.

check under your bonnet for the siren, standard system will say nissan, and be quite chunky, where as the aftermarket stuff is quite small. or take your centre console up.
