different engines - QG18DE vs QG15DE

Hey all,

might be a noob question but I've done a search and can't find info.

How do you tell the difference between these two engine types.

Serial number id guess, theyre gonna look indentical from the outside

cheers, but what about the serial number would tell you the engine model?

Have you got two engines your looking at? If theyre in the car then the VIN plate would tell you. I dont know either engine, but maybe the serial number would also have the displacement as part of it

The almera phase 1 1.5 came with a unpainted rocker cover the almera phase 1 1.8 came with a black rocker cover. the phase 2 almera 1.5 also came with a unpainted rocker cover. I am not too sure about the phase 2 1.8 rocker cover. if your looking to replace a engine make sure its out the car you want it to be as the primera P11 114 came with athe QG series engine and a few other cars did too

My girlfriends phase 1 1.5 n16 came with the black rocker cover.

Surely engine code should be stamped on the block?
My SR20 has it clearly stamped..

not too sure on the QG, but on the SR the code is stamped on the flywheel housing at the front of the motor, check there fella

My Phase 1 N16 1.5 also had a black rocker cover.

Is the ehgine in the car etc? Flywheel diameter is different.

well if your changing the engine make sure the throttle body is the same the N16 phase 1 was cable driven and the phase 2 is electronical. also they both have slight differences.
