Does your splitter cause problems at garages

I've got a P1 lowered on PI springs and I have been to 2 garages today to try and help me figure out this droning noise I have and they wont help me cause the car wont go on the ramp. I was told that it was rediculous and shouldn't have that 'thing' on the front

Going to try and find one with a 2 poster ramp, but just curious, I can't be the only one with probs with my P1 and the splitter. I always concious of the splitter on pavements etc.

It looks so good with it on...I don't wanna take it off. I'm just repairing it now as its split in about 3 places due to kerbs and the ramp in my mates place :O but its starting to annoy me

Is the P2 not quite as low??

Tell them it's standard and to get a proper garage, fuckwits.

I remember Matt's (Almera_uk) MoT got delayed because his car was too low, , but that was on coilovers. He just had to find a different garage I think.

my splitter scrapes at the garage i take mine to, told them i dont care if they scratch it getting it on the ramp cus its scratched loads to start with and its pretty flexible anyway, laguna splitter.

or i take it where they use the arms to lift it rather than a ramp.

Tell them to fuck off and wise up. Theres nothing I hate more than morons in garages who try and tell me how my car should be and how I shouldnt mess with it. They really show their knowledge of cars when they ask if the 421 header is standard. Just tell them its the factory bodykit and to try harder, or go to a garage where the staff arent old gits.

I did tell him it was standard, but he didn't agree.

He also told me he couldn't hear the noise for the exhaust.

I laughed in his face and said 'eh??'

Lots of head shaking followed, i was livid at the time but i find it funny thinking about it now

Aint going back there, gonna try garage number 3 this afternoon. I prefer taking it in and getting them to hear/feel the noise before it goes in and I get a ahh we couldn't find anything m8....that will be 40 quid please

I get this everywhere.

I tried 6 local garages when getting mt tracking done, and all of them said "too low blah blah"

I just said no problem, I'll find somewhere else. Which I did.

Just go to a garage with flat ramps that are in the floor.

You have a few options mate:

- use a low level rocket jack (designed for low cars)
- Put 2 plank's of wood by the feet of the four poster so the incline up to the ramp isn't as "harsh"
- Use a 2 poster ramp and swing the legs under the skirts
- Use a scissor ramp and use the sill's
- Find a garage which has a ramp sunk into the floor, i think by law every mot ramp has to be like this....
- Use an air jack and slide it under your car

Probably alot more, also if the legs of the two poster ramp won't fit under the skirts, get a mate to "lift" the arches which will pull the sill's up slightly

hope this helps

Tried the planks of wood and that didn't really help

Not seen many places with the ramps you mentioned.

I know of one with a 2 poster round here, but the garage is not the best ie not good reports.

I don't normally take it to garages, me and a mate usually do it in his work (exhaust centre), but it sounds like a bearing but theres no play in the front wheels and we thought it was the driveshaft...replaced that and its still there. can feel it through the floor on both sides in the front.

So hopefully I can find somewhere that will at least look at it this week :)

The garage round the corner from me has the four poster sunk into the ground. I do come close to removing it with the brake rollers though...

My splitter didn't cause a problem at the garage I went to...well not for them anyway. They went far too fast up the ramps and ripped the front left side off...THEN tried to push it back into place without me seeing...THEN had the cheek to tell me my car was 'a bit low'. Idiots...I'm sure they wouldn't be that careless with their own cars. The splitter's already cracked at the front so I couldn't really get anything done about it, and it did clip back on to be fair.

I just stood there open mouthed at him as he punched the splitter back onto the car thinking I hadn't seen him...w*nker!

Can't get the sunny up anywhere. Being somerset they're used to banged out old pajeros. End up doing ym own work on the two poster at college (splitter sits lower than anything else)

had that problem when the car was on lowering springs to, it wouldnt go on the garage ramp, they moaned it was to low,

its even lower now tho 70-80mm on coilovers

another local garage has installed, the lifts that sit flush with the floor and they rise up, so going to start using them

im dragging this old post up, i'm hopfully looking into coilovers in the near future. when i had an mot yestarday i noticed that the splitter might bottom out when the car drops into the brake rollers, has anybody had an issue with this? if there on the highest setting i still think it will hit, anyway around this?

mine was fine on coilovers for the rollers so i think urs should be fine.

there is a bit of a slant to the floor aswell so it wasnt THAT low but was low enough to smash when i smashed my release bearing and had to be lifted home

just take it slow
