Drivers side lock rotated.

Hi
I have a Nissan almera n15, 1998 reg 1.4litre

The drivers side lock has rotated by 45degrees (see photo in attached file - don't know how to insert an image in post from my pc).
It could be a failed robbery attempt, or the kids have turned (forced) the key the wrong way round.

Anyways, the drivers side door is locked, and the lock won’t unlock.
Have to unlock the car from the passenger side (ie the central locking), and then the drivers side door can be opened. The central locking works ok from the passenger side, and this unlocks the drivers side as well, and so the drivers door can be opened from the outside.

1)Is this a common issue?
2)Has anyone had this before?
3)How can it be repaired?
4)I guess all the inside of the door cards have to be removed. Can see a few screws but it’s not obvious how I can get to the lock. The window handle will probably need to come off, but can’t see how to take it off.

Any information would be helpful.
Especially photo’s.

Thanks in advance

either the lock is broken, or the whole barrel has rotated and is stopping you from unlocking it.

Everything works with a series of metal bars, so if one of these has come off then it wont work. The door card is easy to remove, screw in the middle of the handle, window switch you can remove when the door car is loose, so dont worry about that.

Then you just remove all the outer edge ones. once all the screws are out push the whole door card up then out.

You will see the poles etc. and the barrel once this is off, you probably just need to re-align the barrel.

The barrel is held in by a sprung 'U' shaped clip. It may have come off for some reason or you may have a mismatch of Phase1 and Phase 2 parts as the Phase 1 barrel is smaller than the Phase 2. You wont know until you get in there really. As long as there is no visible damage to the door then you may have a sticky lock. Some WD40 over night could loosen it up or just swap the lock from the passanger door. I'd advise snapping a couple of pics on you phone once you've got the door card off so you can get everything back in the right place.

Thanks for the replies.
It has manually operated windows. The handle that operates the window, can’t see how to take it off?

Have edited my post to:-
"The central locking works ok from the passenger side, and this unlocks the drivers side as well, and so the drivers door can be opened from the outside."

You should be able to get a small piece of rag or wire behind the winder handle and then floss the hell out of it. The clip usually catches on the material and pops out. Don't lose it though as they have a habit of pinging off.

Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately, can't seem to get the window handle off. :(
Anyone got photo's of the inside of the window handle, the shaft it fits on, and how this clip actually fits.

Tried flossing with a piece of rag and tried using a screw driver tna.
Can't see any sort of clip there, and the area seems to be recessed.

Thanks

Sorta like this if I remember from ages ago.

The red thing is the clip. you need to either;

- Get pliers on it
- Get a flathead screwdriver on it

Here is the proper way to do it;

On a side note, my paint skills are amazing.

Thanks for all your help.
I've managed to get the window handle crank off without breaking anything :-)

Just need to get to the lock now.

There is a U shaped bracket which slides over the barrel and hold it in. You have to remove this to get the lock out of the door.

If you have the door card off, you will be able to see it.
