I have a n16 almera sporting 1.5 and am looking to fit in a cd player, nothing fancy, just some thing that will allow me to listen to the stone roses.

I want to keep the steering wheel controls but do I have to swap out the original h/u or can I add a cd player else where?????

Ta.

p.s does anyone know the spec of a 1.5 sporting 2001, i cant find it anywhere.

Theres never a dumb question.

To be honest i cant really answer the questions. just be careful whejn picking ure cd player if u want to keep the steering wheel controls.

If you want to add another cd player or something like that theres a place just below the air controls (a little shelf) that you should be able to use.

At least thats what mine is (2002 1.5 Twister) like and its def a possibility for a motorised screen job!! :D

Anyway...hope this helps

Is that on the N16 aswell then?? When i first saw it wondered what was missing! Suppose it saves makin room for something else to fit

Its a great place to mount a baybus I have my toggle switches mounted in there.

In response nissan do a add on cd player that you can chuck in the boot I think. Or get a 3rd party one. I have a Pioneer head unit and I have been told that you can get an harness adaptor from halfords that will let you use your wheel controls mate though I have not got one myself.

My N16 Sport+ has a CD changer in that hole - it's ISO sized, which would explain why it's so convenient for head-unit sized things :)

I've got a stupid question to add - one that might be useful in the thread. How do I remove the standard head unit? I want to fit my bass tube in the car, and I need to find out if the car has (and hopefully take a feed from) the remote lead (the one that has a voltage if the sound system's switched on).

I've got the 'Service Manual', and there's a flowchart for taking the whole dash apart, but I can't see any easy way to remove just the audio unit.

There's a thread earlier in this section of the forum, but it relates to the N15, I think.

Any tips?

To remove the factory fitted head unit you have:
1) Open the top cubby hole
2) Slide the unit forward and up
3) Remove the trim from around the heating controls by grabing the ends and pulling forward.
4) Undo the top and botton srews and lift the whole unit forward.

Hope this helps

PS i don't think the factory unit has a remote out for an amp

I went out, and after a good yank on that top panel, it's out.

Nice workmanship on this Japanese stuff - everytime I removed a panel on my old Seicento, I broke one of the clips holding it on! I think there were only two clips left on the rear panels by the time I sold it!

I've had a look at the mess of wiring behind, but there's not much of a clue about what it all is.

I guess I could wire the 'radio on' wire onto something that's on in the accessory position. This would be OK, as I don't leave it in that position for long periods of time without the engine on.

Alternatively, I could put a big red 'bass' switch somewhere on the dashboard :)

If I don't get round to doing the bass tube today I'm not sure it'll happen this side of Christmas. I curse the people who decided to convert the garage on our house!
