i would imagine same engine + Same car = same ECU, but if i recall you need the ECU, Keys, Ignition barrel and all door barrels for it all to work
 
Wow, really? I have a 2000 sport+ and after changing coil 1 four times, my mechanic has now informed me that I need a new ECU.
J11tlo, can you please let me know where you're buying your ECU from, will try them for one of mine.

Ph1,2 & 3 ECU'S are all the same.

All you need is the ECU, you don't need all the keys either but you need a Nissan dealer to recode your keys to the vehicle.

As for 2000 sport+ ECU i would change your mechanic ! Never heard of a ECU burning out coil packs and why would a ECU only burn one out ?
Get him to check the scope pattern of the of the coil pack to see if they are switching ok. Check the plug as well. Earth points on the coil pack system as well
