Eeermm... hello

Hello guys...

Just bought Almera N16, 1.8 Sport, 2001, 53k miles for £1900. I hope it wasn't a rip off
My friend used to drive it for the last 3 years

There she is...

Took her to Peak District today, to do some test drive on countryside roads. It was a real joy to drive around

I'm a bit nervous as this is my first ever car, owned by me. I used to drive Focus and Fiesta before but I didn't own them. Hence I have almost no experience with maintaining a car :|

First thing I need to do with the 'Mera is to buy some paint (I think?) as there are few small scratches here and there. One of them is too deep IMO and I fear the rust might start eating the body at some point
The problem is I have no clue what the color is. My mate says it's red, the MOT certificate also says red but I've seen red 'Mera before and it is different. Mine is... pink(ish)... or something like that. Any of you guys have any idea what color exactly is this?

Hello

Seems like a good buy if you ask me, and i agree that they are fun cars to drive
As for the colour its the same as my sport, nissan call it 'dark red metalic'

Funny enough i bought a my touch up pen from nissan today, it comes with the base colour and laquer for £4, which i thought was very reasonable.

Hope this helps,

Matt

Oh it does, very big thanks Matt

Thank you for the welcome guys

Aeh oop, price seems annoyingly low, meaning I'll probably never sell mine now!

Best bit about these cars is you pretty much don't have to maintain them, short of proper servicing and rust.

I've noticed a whole lot of n16s around edinburgh (including mine) which have rusting front right arches (strangly always the right), which is gonna cost me 150 bucks to fix, so keep an eye on that and catch it early; I assume there's somehow a problem with that area.

Apart from that enjoy easy motoring!

Fuck's sake; I bought the same spec car with 38k on the clock for £4k October last year and thought it was not bad for dealer prices.

You got a 3-door as well (bastard; wish I'd waited for one)

Look out for rust on the cross-member (get it rust-proofed ASAP) rust on doors and arches and .. well, that's about it.

QG18DE is an engine I suspect has a lot more in it than anyone has yet unleashed because the Almera fans are are so hung up on the SR20DE.

Don't play about in 3rd gear when there are police about.

Do play about in 3rd gear when there are Civics about.

Good buy buddy.

Don't know about yours but mine has some flaws, apart from few scratches
Small ~1cm crack on the backlight
Broken central lock :(. The first owner (some lady from Bradford) damaged the key and the car cannot be locked remotely, I need to do it "old style". I can open it without problems though
Problem with drivers door... someone, somehow managed to break/damage the hinge and it wasn't repaired properly, so it doesn't close smoothly
The interior... could be much worst... but better too :). I can't expect a lot from 2001 car, can I?

Apart from those things I haven't seen (wasn't told) anything else
My girlfriend did 115mph yesterday, nothing fel off nor I heard any rattles so I'm guessing it's in good condition, in general

Don't play about in 3rd gear when there are police about

Already noticed! :D
Lovely to drive on 3rd

I'm starting new job soon so when I get some money in I'll pay for AOC membership. So be prepared for a lot of questions :). Most of them really lame, as it's my first car

Have a good search around the forum when you join up. There's loads of info to keep you interested! It may give you the mod bug too :D
