Electrical and gauges

I'm mounting gauges into my OE 'screen pod' so as they're at eye level they could be annoying/distracting at night when I'm just crusing (oil and temp gauge will be dimmable so can keep that on).

So I'd like to add small discrete rocker switches to be able to turn them off while ignition is on. Does anyone know if this is possible or might cause problems?

The switch:

No cause then I wouldnt be able to see them at night when I wanted to :P Thanks though :)

if you wire a switch into the posi side of the illumination wiring then you can switch the illumination off when you want shouldn't cause any probs if done properly. the catch is the gauge will still work but u just wont see it when it dark, unless switch is on!

That would be perfect. The boost gauage though will be like that I imagine because it'll be mechanical, but the EGT and oil pressure/temp gauges are electrical so I'd imagine that they would just end up turning off altogether. But that's fine, as long as it doesnt harm the gauges or effect anything else electrical?

no shouldn't do all your doing is putting a on off switch on the lights, gauges should be fine illumination and what the gauge does are two seperate systems! the light is usally just a bulb stuck in the back

Ah I see. I just had a look at the wiring diagram for an Oil Pressure gauge I have here, and you're correct of course :)

see i know these things lol. i was trying to fit a rev counter on my 1.4 phase 1, but no joy but i studyed all the wiring diagrams to see if that would help but no joy :( .
