Engine problems

Hi,

Apologies if this is the wrong thread...

I have an Almera Tino Se 1.8 petrol. Last week the orange check engine light came on while i was driving. I have had this before when a coil pack failed - however i lost drive when that happened before this time nothing happened. The following day the light was off so i didnt think any more of it. Yeserday I was driving along and I lost power, the rev counter was stuck hard at 0 and i had nothing on the accellerator - the check engine light came on again. I pulled over and gave the car 5 minutes, it started again and got me home with minor twinges felt in the drive.

Problem i have is i dont trust the car any more. Could this happen again? What even was it? Any ideas?

Thanks,

Maybe get the fault codes checked mate. Maybe something as simple as a sensor or coil pack has died like you mentioned.

Is your car a '52' plate by any chance ? I know there was a batch of poor quality coil packs that year, as they're almost identical to the Fiat Stilo 1.6 fitment that I had. Those very same symptoms meant my car broke down 3 times in 6 months ! The coils had failed and triggered the ECU fault light. Only remedy was to change the coils for newer spec units. I sold that car shortly after as I didn't trust it either. The service manager even admitted the original fitments were crap !
