engine warning light?

Hi all,
can anyone suggest a way forward for this problem with an 2003 N16 Almera 1.8 petrol please?

A week ago i had my injectors cleaned at a garage at the same time as my mot. No problems with the mot at all...

When i drove it away it seemed a bit sluggish but no issues. A few days later it misfired on startup for a short while, then again the next morning - after which the orange engine mngmt light came on and stayed on.

It had misfired wice before which is why i took it to be cleaned.

I went back to the mechanic who hooked it up and said it was just an exhaust sensor, reset it and said come back if it continues.

This morning it did it again, the light just flashed for a while then went off.

Why has this atrted after the injector clean? Is it just some dirt in the system that needs to be flushed out? Should I change plugs first to see if it helps (and should i put super4's in)?

My mechanic is of course italian as i live in italy, but my technical italian is not up to this sort of conversation - and i guess there are more experts reading this who may be able to help.

Any thoughts? ...and please don't tell me it could be the timing chain....

thanks lots
Chris

stretched chain? not sure which models were affected but you're looking at a hefty repair cost if it is.

sounds like the chain mate, how ever it migt be the two sensors on them. do a ecu check urself, bit of wire in two of the pins of the dianostic port should flash and give ur the error code. ur model should be ok for timing chain issues, it was the early 00-01 models hope this helps

Okay,
plugs are changed and no warning lights yet...super4s are okay so far....i am wonderring about the egr valve now...it is a little lumpy at slow speeds and i think this is what the italian mech was talking about.

Where is the egr valve on a 1.8 and can i remove and clean it easilly? I have done so on a bravo jtd but it was at the top and quite obvious...

???

If you have a 1.8 petrol Almera then check the exhaust gas sensors. One is before the cat in the exhaust manifold, the other is on the exhaust front pipe. If cleaning materials are used on either of these sensors, it can screw things up enough to give you those symptoms. I very much doubt it's the camchain slipping. What sort of mileage does the car have ?

Also steer clear of super4's in future, the small weak tips have been known to melt/drop off into the cylinder causing catastrophic damage..

Hi
more misfiring this am after no use for 2 days...very jumpy for a while - flashing warning light then all clears and feels fine!!! very annoying. If cleaning products can have a negative effect how can i check them and resolve??

I have 88k km...so about 60000 miles tops.

Serious about the super4's? seems a bit strange...anyone else had similar probs?
