Err Hello!

yep, rookie time...

A little bit about me,

My name is Mark, I'm 30 and live in Kent. I spent the last 6 or 7 years building and racing motorcycles and got a little bit fed up with spending a fortune on the bike only to go and lob it into the gravel at Brands and hurt myself....

Anyway, Now i've stopped all that malarky, I'm bored and need a project to fiddle with

I've always had Nissan Almeras because they are sooooo bloody reliable! I also do a lot of driving around Pikey estates in Gravesend as part of my job, so I've always had cheap runaround motors.

After I wrote off my 4 door almera a year or so ago, I aquired a cheap 2 door 1.4 SI N15 which has never missed a beat. never thought about modding it, as bikes have always been my first love, until I was browsing for some new parts and came across this site. quite taken with the idea now....

The car isn't perfect by any means, its done 115k, its got scuffs and trolly dents all over it (and being black, they show up a treat!) and a bent rear bumper from someone backing into it in a carpark and driving off.

Dont really know where to start, I want more power obviously, but reckon i should just set about tidying it up a bit, and sticking some GTI parts on it.... we'll see ;)

Anyways, hello and have a nice day.....

Mark

welcome fella!

sound like another enthusiast - which never goes a miss in this place!

definitely get some pics up - it'll give you something to look back on when you have made your changes and see how far you have taken the little work horse!

Hi and welcome to the AOC...

the best bang for your buck mod would be to wack an SR20 in to it...

not a big job as u might of first thought... i done mine recently... just make sure u have all the bits first :O

it would be the best ting youve ever done... then there's loads of performance parts to work on, different filters, manifolds, suspension set-ups, cams, turbo, nitrous, stroking, pistons or VVL... the worlds your oister :D

you could even try out for a VET :D and make some serious power..

take a look around the forum check out the My rides section and see if u find anything u like :D

there's plenty to look at..

hope this helps... keep modding.

Heyup and welcome.

If you want a bit of cheap fun with a mera then a set of good lowering springs wouldnt go amiss, GTi cat back exhaust, derestrict the air intake, smash the insides out of the precat (GHETTO MODS) hehe

Right, I'll get some pics sorted then, might have to actually wash it first though....

having a look under the bonnet, there is a lot of stuff that wants looking at...lots of rusty bits staring back at me yuk!

first port of call would be some springs and wheels (original steelies ATM) I reckon, together with a new rear bumper (gti?) and getting all the little dents removed. some side skirts wouldn't go amiss either.

So what does an engine swap roughly cost then? Although I have no quarms about whipping a TZ250 engine out and back in, in under an hour...car engines are a little beyond me! had a little look on the 'bay and there are a few of those sr20 engines going well cheap (again race bike engines are silly money!)

Cheers......

What colour is it? I've got a spare rear bumper in black, just a normal bumper, its not in bad condition, you can have it if you want, I took it off my black GTi when I changed it for a bodykit one.

I know its not going with the spirit of modifying but seen as Gti's cost next to nothing, why not look for one. That's job done, no grief etc for less than a grand. I'd never 2.0 a 3 door 1.4 because you can have a better built, albeit slightly rusty gti for pennies.

welcome, there are many people that buy almeras for work horses and they end up as so much more. as you said, they are reliable....

Welcome Mark, I'd just look for a Gti too. More hassle than it's worth I reckon to upgrade at your own time & expense. As for leaving the bikes behind, you'll miss the smell of Silkolene's finest . . . .

Thing is not everyone wants a GTi, some people just want some cheap fun with GA engines? Up to the individual (Although if I was going for 120hp plus I'd just whack in an SR/swap to GTi)
