Erratic rev counter

Hi guy's. My rev counter has started shooting about. When accelerating, around 2.5k revs and 6k it seems to stick and then jump around 500-1k revs at a time. Also does it when slowing down. Any ideas?

Hi there! Im having a similar problem but it is from about 2700rpm till 3000rpm there is a gap and the rev needle seems to jump/skip. Any ideas guys?

i know in the primera p11 there is a way to reset the whole cluster, by pressing both buttons on the dash together and switch ignition on, this has resolved same problem on the p11.

might be worth checking for how to get into the almera hidden menu. or try and reset the ECU if you can.

Hmmm thanks, I personally feel it might be to do with the engine this rev jump thing! Its the way it flickers and the engine noise that worries me it skips in the noise aswell. Im not too sure whether it looses power at that stage aswell.

what you have witnessed is N15 rev counter death. dont think its fixable, best try n get a rev counter form a scrappers. the tacho unit comes out seperately to the speedo and gauges so no need to worry about swapping the whole speedo unit and having mileage issues etc. done this myself took about 5 mins.

give us a yell if you need to know any more.

tom.

Im probably taking more notice of rev counter now as its the first tell tale sign of timing chain wear.

I'l keep an eye on things anyway man.

Thanks Tommo

I emailed a Nissan dealership and they kindly told me the symptoms:

"rev counter would be jumping and csr would be running poorly"

Dont know what he meant by csr!

Sounds like your timing chain is on it's way out! Mine did that just after the Engine Management Light - engine used to missfire aswell causing the car to judder a bit when accelerating from a slow/stationery start. £805 later it was all sorted out.
