This has been bugging the hell out of me for a little while now. My Sri is a Phase 1 P-Plate, logbook says registered march 1997. My car is equipped with a passenger side airbag (rather than the dash tidy cubbyhole), Drivers arm rest cover (rather than just a storage bin) and rear disc brakes. reason i am confused is because i have stripped parts from an N-reg Sri with none of these extras, worked on an early P-reg white Sri (N15 STG) for those who know it, and today an R-reg P1 Gti with only the rear discs and none of the interior bits??? i am the 4th owner, the last is a workmate and previous to him is my current manager. We all think the 1st owner went for a safety/security option on the car. Are we right????

Wow! Thats amazing what differences you could make at the dealership! I want rear disks and an armrest dammit! 
i always thought the lid on the centre console was on the last of the line GTi's only 
not impossible that it was intended to sit in a dealers for a bit so had all the little extras put on it to show it off a bit more, they did dealer principle p10's with cd players and air con (this was back in 1992 so not a common thing back then) which is what ours is apparantly, from what i know it was built to sit in dealers and show off the cars to potential customers which may be what yours was, or it could be that the 1st owner fitted the cubby hole thing afterwards and the air bag was an option (just thinking with yours being a p1 and the cubby hole cover being p3 only i think)

Nah cubby hole covers are known for being Phase 2.5 things only (I'm renaming Phase 3 now 
) because they were an optional extra (And 2.5s have ALL the extras), I guess most people just didnt choose them.
Although your point that he probably went back and got one makes sense, as you see a fair few phase 1's with phase 2 bumpers (From knocks, scrapes etc).

Nah it was an option, not sure when from though, as mine is (I think) a phase 1, series 1, really early model like the GTi.

I got a armrest for mine out of a scrappy, a totally standard phase 1, wasnt a gti just something shit too, didnt notice rear discs or airbags I was too busy ripping out the seats with brute force and trying to get the screws out with a set of keys(had no tools just popped in coz a mate had a thing about nicking the jacks...)
