Extreme Tire Sizes

Anybody tried 205/35/18's on their show rims and/or 225/50/15 on standard rims?
Since I can't be bothered to invest in new rims altogether I'considering the alternative to thinner rubber for my 18" daily use and wider rubber for track use.
One thing I'm not sure is if the 225/50/15 tires (designed fo a minimum 7" wide rims) will fit our standard GTi ones - Not sure how wide they are.
Any help appreciated! ;)

had 205/35/18s before, hard ride, poorer handerling I noticed, tyre wall has less give in it so lets go sooner with a snap

Oh... "lets go sooner with a snap"... Doesn't sound good, do you mean no grip at all or is there a risk of the alloy metal rim touching the ground?
If 225/25/18's existed they'd be ideal as I'm after wider tyers, by the way, I don't suppose you know if the standard GTi rims are 6" wide or 7"?

what I meant was it doesntn feedback as much feeling, they tend to grip then let go suddenly when limit is surpassed
whereas higher waller tires will give more feedback before they do that

I had my BFG drag radials (225/50/15) on my standard Almera GTi wheels.

No problems what so ever.

Just for the record...the Almera GTi wheels are 6" wide.

Cheers

Dave

Thanks for the help guys.. I eventually chose 225/50/15 Toyo T1R for the standard GTi rims.
orange_andy, I don't suppose you could take a pic of both your tyres, I'm just curious on the clearance and full lock issues for the 18"s?!
Thanks in Advance :)

Seeing as the forum is littered aplenty of threads I thought I’d do my bit for the web environment so to speak (or at least try to keep things tidy) and reuse an old thread.

I’ll be changing my tyres again soon and I’m considering going back to Toyo’s (currently using 225/35/18 Falkens), I had clearance problems using the 215/40/18 setup before and was wondering if anybody’s tried 235/30/18 with no problems? Oh and I’m using 5mm spacers on the front.
