Fair Quote on Bodywork Required??

Im soon to be getting quite abit of work done to the GTi and i just wanted to make sure im getting a fair quote...
Ive asked for the following to be done:

Rear arches (not that bad) ground back, treated and resprayed.
Mirror covers resprayed (stone chipped etc)
Front bumper (the same)
Drivers door (some arse scrapped it in a car park and buggered off)
Front wings, one had a slight dent the other sum1 has had a half arsed attempt at respraying a part and it looks crap.

So basically a full front end respray minus the bonnet, and the rear arches.
Ive been quoted approx. £420 inc VAT...

Your thoughts??

I once had a bill for £220 for a re-paint of the rear bumper and a dent on the corner below the rear light.

Basing it on my price this looks pretty good, but I think I was using an expensive place (someone elses insurance was paying). If you're getting the whole door re-sprayed then i'd say decent price

Ok cheers.
The door itself isnt that bad, the scrape is about 4inches in width, and about 2/3rds the length of the skin...but its gone through past the point of t-cut and polish.

I got the o/s rear fixed after someone went into it while it was parked at work  Cost £420 so to get all that sprayed it sounds reasonable.

Edk mate, that sounds stupid! a dent master could fix that for under £100, and as for the paint surely thats just a rub back and bow over job, something most shops must do all the time.

did sound steep but i had no idea of costs and i got two other quotes of about the same from other garages. from a place called Autocosmetix in guildford who are used by local dealers for repairs as well. i didnt have to pay though, work covered the costs as it was a colleague who hit me! (idiot)

i'de say thats very, very good- the paint alone would be the majority of the cost in that

that sounds like a good price, i was quoted 150 for the front bumper of mine. So basing the work on that, it sounds very reasonable for all that... and it will look awesome when it has all been done, well worth it! :-)

a place near me charges £75-£100 a panel depending on the work involved, shouldnt be a problem with the paint match on your car either, so seems a good price to me

I was quote £150 to grind back 1 arch and spray it, with me supplying the paint....

i would charge around £100 for a front bumper,

in all fairness the amount of paint costs more for the less your getting done. the more you get done the price should look cheaper

because of the amount that you have to buy the paint in

the rest depends on the actual work - the painting is nothing

the scratch - is it metal deep? surface scratch?

the rear arches how bad - rusted through? surface rust?

all this depends on the charge

but for the spray - i use to spray whole car for around £400-£500 - basic spray over

work involved is what knocked prices up

depends also were you are int he country - i could get back to spraying down here (oxford(if i got some work space) and charge alot more!))

So in all then it sounds good :D
Quickdraw: The scratch is what my un-trained eye would call primer/base coat deep...
Rear arches > well the chap had a good fondle and said it 'seemed' surface, but he also said he thinks someone has had a go before due to the feel and finish of the paint, which wouldnt suprise me. BUT as with most rust issues, you dont know untill you strip it back.

Well cheers chaps, gunna go down and book it in next week for sometime end of next month (after pay day lol) will keep ya posted.:)
