FAO: Everybody with 17" wheels

Quick question, what size tyres are you currently running?

I'm wondering if i can get away with a 45 profile as the 205/40/17's i have now, need replacing. I think that the 45's may be too big?

Retarded question maybe but what tyre pressure do you run in your 17's ?

With 16" standard wheels on, I run them at the factory recommended 31/30 psi (N16) & they're fine for wear & grip as you'd expect. But with the 17" rims fitted, I run them at 30/29 psi. I've been told by 2 different garages that whenenver you run bigger than standard rims & low-pro tyres, you should always reduce the tyre pressure slightly. General rule of thumb seems to be for every 1" diameter you go up & 10mm less sidewall, decrease the air pressure by 1 or 2 psi. I know other people will disagree, but I've found it works fine on 3 cars for the road. Wear pattern is fine because you'll have a stiffer sidewall anyway with bigger, lower-profile tyres.
