Fire wall amp install - Help !

Hi. I am wiring up an amp in my GTi. Where is the best place to feed the power cable from the battery through to the car interior ?

I have tried the rubber grommet on the passenger side of the engine compartment (about 30cm in from wing and about the same from top). There is a loom going through here but when I push the wire through it doesn't appear on the other side ? (should be behind the fan unit ?)

Any advice most welcome.

I managed to get the power cable through the grommet on the passenger side... maybe you need to push it through further?

Don't get many members down south, I'm from Romsey :)
 
Thanks Philip. Did you remove the rubber gromet ? I only poked a hole in the engine side. I fed all 12 ft of the wire through and it didnt appear anywhere ?

Can't say I've seen you on the roads. I work in Chilworth and my daughter does Karate in Romsey on a Sunday and Tuesday.
 
I just poked a hole in the grommet. Sounds wierd, maybe there's another grommet which goes somewhere else, other than the one I'm thinking of?

I am at uni in Cardiff so I havn't been around much recently, but I'll be back in a couple of weeks. Have a look at the meets section, couple of meets coming up down south you might be interested in.
 
If you look around carefully on the passenger side just under the glovebox there is a hole covered up by the carpet. If you push this with the wire from the engine bay side it will eventually come out of the interior end and it should be ok after that!
 
i pulled mine through one of two gromits on the passeger side behind the air box (area). get a mate to feed the wire, while you get on floor outside car and stick your head right under the dash , stick your hand up ther and wait til you feel it come through!

i dont know what the small red one is but you can see here where the large red one that powers my amp goes thru the bulkhead

ok this is as close as i can get my camera inside the car, you can see the 2 cables droppin down from behind the heater boxy thing.

Yup, that's where my power cable was too, if you open your glovebox and look behind it and get someone else to poke the wire through you'll be able to see it. There's a channel the amp wire sits in perfectly.

Hope this works ok, The gromets you show are used on my GTi for the A/C sytem (I havent tried getting the power wire in the same holes yet). Second pic shows gromet I tried (has a loom passing through already).

Thanks for taking the time to take photos Andy. I'm going to try again later, but any other tips most welcome.
 
go through where the main loom goes through, use a wire coat hanger and tape the amp wire to the end of it and push it through
 
there should be a grommet further down, fell out on my old one and let a draft in on the passenger side, could see through to the engine bay from the footwell once it had fallen out so shouldnt be too hard to find. seem to remember it was around the same hieght as the carpet stopped, but probably going back 2 years here so dont hold me to that.
