Fitting aftermarket Steering Wheel

Alright,

just tried to fit my new steering wheel and found that I have the wrong boss kit. Sourced the new one but on looking at it, started wondering how do you connect the horn??

Obviously airbag wires will be taped up and left alone but are the horn wires in there too? Different connections so any help appreciated.

Cheers

I never managed to egt them to work on my after market steering wheel ended up wiring in a button near the head lamp dipping switch. I think the only way you can get it to work through the steering wheel horn is if you make up some sort of twisting contact plate, if that makes sense.

If you could possibly get me a close up pic I could help ya with that...but the simplest option is to get a long enough wire and wind it inside the hub (if there is place), just make sure it's long enough so the wire wont snap when steering :P look for a hole in the hub...and run the wire through the hole...have to add that I have never seen a hub before so it's only a logical explanation on how to wire the horn :D

lol that cable idea wouldnt last 5 minutes, not many cables are designed to constantly be flexed and twisted.

if i remember i will look at how my sunny has been done as that has a momo steering wheel on

I made 3 attempts with long cables and they all failled, the funniest being the last attempt when the horn went off everytime I steered! lol

ROFL :D:D

well..there are special cables, and as far as I know even mera has it like this...thick cable but lasts :P But the longer the wire the less wear it suffers so the constant steering would afffect the long cable minimaly....trust me I'm a electrician :D :D

i had same problem i gave up in the end so i got a aftermarket steering wheel sat in bedroom doing nothing, if u find a solooution let me know

Just got a awesome idea on how to fix this...here it goes:

1. get the cable through the hub and be sure to make it hold tight there, lenght doesn't matter

2. get a nice long and sturdy spring which you can hook

3. cover the spring in electrician hose(or simmilar), the one you cover "naked" wires with

4. connect the other end of the spring with the steering wheel horn connector....

A pic to describe the spring shit...

Just make sure the spring won't get out of the hose or you will honk-honk when steering :D, oh and get a larger hose so the spring can move freely there.
Don't use a too thin spring cause I have no idea what current passes when you use the horn and on thin wires large currents heat things up :P

I done mine with a piece of brass that I got from ebay. it was about 1cm wide and about 20cm long I bent it into a S shape kind of thing and then screwed it down its working till now and the only problem that it was making a sqeeking noise but then I put some copper grease on it and its working fine now :-)

Yeah, its fairly simple....only 2 wires are needed ... the brass strip connects with the brass backing on the boss making a circuit when the horn button is pressed................HONK!

So which ones are the horn wires?

My steering wheel has 2 connections on the horn button with wires to connect, boss had a brass plate that sat at the back with one wire but wouldnt connect to new horn and none of std ones would go as they are all in a plug.

the new boss may be better but still unsure which wire(s)?

tbh i cant remember. I think the one wire attaches to the copper strip and the other was earthed on the boss.

correct the wire is the live and its gerounded thro the boos and chassis. if you have to connector on the horn u only nee one , one will be the live the other is connected to the spring which is earth to side of boss.

thats what I did like rowdy-GTi I was not sure if rowdy this method or use a cable bent in half. To be honest thats the best method I thought anyway

Right im sat in the car now, got the boss on, wheel ready to fit.

Got the black earth coming from the boss kit which is attached and i have a live wires from the steering wheel to connect.

The wire is yellow and green...Where do i connect it too???

Anybody know?

Copper strip? this a personal touch as nothing like that!

cheers
