front bumper p2

hey

just a quick question whats the best way to fill the number plate gap.

a: fibre glass
b: filler

any ideas please

As it's plastic you might want to use as little filler as possible (It needs to flex) so perhaps fibreglass underneath and then a light skim of filler on top?

aye fibreglass will be best as filler will end up cracking,

av thought of doing this a few times but nae sure if the numberplate would stick to good with the curve, and dont want to put holes in the bumper/ plate

how you planning doing your numberplate?

Filler

and the numberplate (if you get a sticker and put it to one side) is a nightmare to get straight

...best with lots of patience and a hairdryer to manipulate it into place

any pics available.

regards

them double sided pads for sticking the plate on, should hold it on fine i would think. or you could get a stick on plate like consett_gti had on his old p2 gti

sticker plates are not road legal iirc, and they're one of those things that it doesn't take an MOT to point out.

i had mine filled with filler and painted and it never cracked in the year i had it done, i had coilovers on and scraped my bumper a few times without cracking it. when i first had it done i had a number plate stuck on with those sticky pads at the bottom of my splitter but i kept catching it on speed bumps etc and kept pulling it off.

and im not sure on the law for sticky on number plates but i got pulled loads of times with it on but never got in trouble for it. i think the reason they r illegal to sell is because u can make the to anything u want without showing ur log book for them. i think they r leagal though if they are on ur car because u you see plenty of caravans etc with them on. thats were i bought mine from a caravan shop. you can by proper reflective backgrounds i thinks thats why i never got in trouble for mine also passed a mot with it on

I filled my bumper with a plasticised filler, and it's been fine. Make sure you buy plastic filler though, not just a generic one. The plastic one is more flexible (higger rubber content or something) so you've got a better chance of it staying there!

Oh and make sure you get the two part resin and hardener, the 'ready made' stuff is inferior quality (imho!!)

Rach.
