front splitter repair

as i managed to bend/dent my front splitter (p2 gti) i was going to get a new one from o'dog or ebay but have been told today that if i remove it from the car i can heat it up and push it back into shape ,is this possible or not ?? i cant see it working myself ,has anyone heard of this or tried it ??

I know some guy that did that with a bumper (heated it & reshaped it), but to be honest he worked in a bodyshop so made it look easy when it was prob not, but probably worth a try if the splitter is goosed anyway you got nothing to lose

im sure if you heat it up it will go back into shape, it would be a matter of taking the defect out and letting cool, i dont sudgest torching it.
i had it done to the sides of my bumper where i bottomed out and it pushed my bumper up, looked good but then i did it again and havnt bothered fixing it again

if it's just the spliter, then it won't be easy like a bumper. you must reshape a dent with much less material to work with.
Try it, heat up the edge from the dent, press the dent carefully out, heat up the material around and massage the hole dent surround without bending it to much.

after the spliter cooled down he will have his old shape and materialstrengh.

heat = ~45°C, not warm, almost to hot to touch!

yes you can

ive done it a few times on fairings for motor bikes when they been in for repair

its hard to get to know what and when - cos it is a matter of not melting/torching the plastic

work from the rear for better use obviously, but it is worth a go

use something that doesn't have a flame or direct heat to much

you can use a GOOD hairdryer - just start to warm it up and every now and then with a straight edge (i use my dent kit as it has a shoe horn and steel toe type braces for it and they get the shapes better

just take your time with it and dont rush it, just every now and then see if you can push it back to shape, if it still too hard, warm a bit more

after a while you will get the hang of how much and what to look for when WARMING (not heating) it up
