Fuel Additives

Hey Guys

Wondering do any of you guys use fuel additives in your almera and if so are they any good? Do you notice any improvement with these?

I tried Redex. It didn't seem to do anything.

I also tried Wynns Extreme, to a full tank of fuel. Seemed to make a helluva difference, but i wouldn't use anything on a regular basis.

I bought some Redex used it once with a full tank of VPower but I havnt used it again, didnt really notice anything.

Redex isn't really a octane booster it's more of a system cleaner. If you are running v+ or ultimate petrol then these will clean your fuel system better than normal petrol anyway so you won't notice much.

I run a bottle though a full tank every few months. I noticed a difference when I first did it but don't really now.

I've tried a racing fuel additive and that DID make a difference. Lots. It's shitting expensive though.

Personally i think most of them are a con, Proboost works in cars running on throttle bodies, but i wonder about others. High octane fuel is fine if the car is designed to run on High octane fuel, as many are, Scoobies, evos, etc etc, but for a car with a normal 93/95 RON setup (or plug if its a vauxhall), then your wasting your money on onctane boosters.

If you were to have your car chipped then indeed runing high octane fuel would see better fule economy and icreased performance, as from factory cars are designed to run on dirty fuel to accomodate for poor fuel cleanliness (which is comon in some foreig countries). However here, we have clean fuel, and chipping a car sets the car up to run on clean fuel only, hence the better economy.

I have gone through every booster..NF race formulae is the best but turns everything orange..expensive as well..Lucas is the best to use..I dont know if you guys would really notice an octane booster in a N/A plus you ecu would be set to run 95 or 98 which you can get at the pumps..we only have 95 over here so booster is a must

i did a 'fuel additive' search and found this thread, not very informative tho.

any advances on this topic?

i ask beacause on my last car (306 1.9dt) fuel additives did make a wee difference in cold starting, performance and mpg. however are they a waste of time on a almera GTi?

thanx......david

fuel additives - no no no. waste of time. i ran loads through my autech gti when i first got it, to try and solve a problem and it didnt do anything. injector cleaners apparently can damage the sr20 injectors as they of self-cleaning design.
your last car was also a TDi so it may respond better to additives. Just put V-power or super unleaded through the car if you want a difference eventually.

In my experience getting your car through emmissions for MOT's etc REDEX etc does help as its a system cleaner, BUT theres stuff on the net about them damaging your CAT's if theyre used too often.
As for performance enhancers, ive never really found theyve made much difference as your diluting them too much to be effective, and bang for buck theyre a rip off, your better off putting a whole tank (from empty) of 99RON in, that i found helped reduce flat spots and gave better MPG, as for performance, it wasnt much to write home about...
Far better off saving your cash for proper mods!

cleaners like that arent really needed on injection engines, its carbs that benefit the most from cleaning, still remember usin it on my old etro and coverin the whole street in thick black smoke, they had to divert the buses, lol!

and if you on about octane boosters then yes they do work, but no good for uk cars as there all mapped for 95 ron, the extra performance is lost, however, if you own an import, jap cars are mapped to run on 100 ron and the extra power is noticeable. only thing there good for on uk cars is keepin the engine clean (nb, keepin engine clean, not cleaning it) better for starting too (cleaner burn) but all petrol goes off if left in your tank too long, the octane boosters are only good for about a week once youve opened the bottle n stuck it in your tank then the power drops
