Fuel consumption!!

My almera sri petrol consumption seems to be quite high, i can almost see my fuel guage moving whilst driving, and i sometimes smell petrol while driving/after parking, and i can't find any leak either. can anyone tell me what might be the cause of problem. Thanks.

I think majority of the Nissan's do the "moving fuel guage" thing while driving, happens to me aswell but once I turn ignition off and come back to car and switch ignition on petrol goes right back up to were it should be after depending on how many miles/how hard I drove the car. Same happens with the smell with me, I ain't leaking anything and not problems in 2years so just ignored it.

yeah my fuel guage moves around...funnily enough if I drive it hard, the needle goes down quickly, but if I go back to driving 'sensibly' it seems to correct itself for how throttle heavy I am, so it goes back up a bit! lol (i think it's just my hopeful imagination though)

Maybe your air/fuel mixture is a bit off if you can smell petrol? Might just be normal though, don't know mate, mine doesn't smell at all.

I drove 100 miles and used about a quarter of a tank fuel... I drove back the same hundred miles, and it used nearly half a tank! I really don't trust those fuel guages!

I get 100 to first quarter. then about 50-70 from quarter line to half a tank then 70 or so miles to next quarter then last quater about 50ish.

I like playing with the fuel light, if you cain the nuts off it at a quarter of a tank you can make the light come on for a bit until you ease off. Then you play a game of "how hard can I drive it without making the light come on". Eventually I had to go everywhere in 5th at 2000rpm to stop the light coming on haha

Most if not all almeras are sensitive on the fuel needle specially near to the quarter tank....if you can smell fuel as already said it might be the air/fuel mixture thats out , just get a emissions test done at a local garage for a few quid to put your mind at ease.but overall nothing to worry about

I also get a fuel smell on parking.

My 1.4Si did 324miles with £40 (@ 99p per liter)of shell v-fuel.

That works out about 36mpg.

Is that normal?

MY 1.4Si was like that, needle seemed to move dramatically when I booted it and regain fuel when I let off.

You want to try my N13 mate, it just randomly moves all the time, just have to try and take an average!

My diesel also has one of those "non - linear" fuel gauges. I get 100 miles without the gauge moving then another 100 from the first quarter and 80 from the next!! strange in the extreme

Worked out your MPG?

Those figures arn't much different to my gti, if I drive it sensibly.

Same here...in fact not even driving sensibly...even with a couple of very spirited drives I get about the same if not more. And I almost always get 150 miles out of the first quarter tank.

I did the same going on holiday. Only used first quarter or a tank and did 155 miles. Not bad for a 158k P1 GTi.

When I just put £10 or £20 worth in and I abuse the throttle a little, I only get 40-50 mile at most for each £10.

Apparently I got told ages ago that when you fill the tank up, somethin to do with tank pressure uses less fuel while full than when you're below half tank for instance. That's why you get better economy when the tanks full.

Might be a crock of shit but I believed it!!

just got 100 miles out of half a tank, im not gonna lie, i nailed it for quite a while over the last few days, but aside from that its pretty good...also, see how far past the 'o' mark you can get it, ive had abotu 1.5 maybe 2mm off the gauge, bottled it after that, had to fill up!
