Fuel Warning Light

Just out of curiousity, on the n15, anyone know approx how many litres of fuel are left in the tank when the fuel warning light comes on? I think the total capacity of the tank is 50 litres (according to Haynes).

well a full tank for me is about 45 litres, but the other day i put a tenner in and it shown that i put another fiver in lol i was incredibly weary!! so at least an extra fiver from when the light comes on

dunno if its just me though but i often go in the reserve tank, and if i let off the gas it returns back to normal? dunno if its just me but every other car doesnt do this lol

I read the manual the day I got it and it said thats there approx 32miles in the tank when the light "stays" on, mines seems to go on and off for a while then eventually stays on!! Tend not to let it in the red cause of all the s**t that the car takes in but sometimes its inevitable!!

Any1 know a good site where I can get myself some new uprated suspension arms? Found a good site for poly bushes but they aint cheap!! just type in N15 bushes and you'll find it no probs!!

Even I cant relate that to the fuel warning light............

if your fuel light comes on on the motorway or at steady speed, ease off slightly and the light will go out, down to the ECU, best way to explain is that it predicts how far yourll go depending on the current fueling.

Ah, that explains why my needle will sit at the bottom of the red, but the light wont be on, then, it`ll suddenly jump to the top of the red & the light comes on.

That`s the one `quirk` of the GTi that really does my head in, thinking the bulbs died, so start thinking about refilling, then the needle moves & the light comes on!

less body roll and duckin and divin under brakin etc so the petrol won't slosh around in the tank so much - fuel light more accurate!!;)

BStard

I did think about writing something along those lines, decided I couldnt be bothered :D

I've never had my fuel light on... Purely because the needle drops so far into the red before it does come on that i get worried and fill up!

ive been about 40 miles on the petrol light. Wouldnt reccomend it though, its hairy business :) Had to find a caravan to sit behind, lol

The most i got outta my reserves was 45miles...then it died on me...that was one long walk home...LOL

One time I was trying to see how much I could get out of a tank on the motorway in austria, and was pretty much in the red. Saw a service station, but thought I'd keep going to the next one to see how much further I could get. Sods law - as soon as I passed that station the light came on, and in Austria service stations are quite far apart (as I found that day). I ended up driving about 30 miles more on the motorway with the light on. By then I was completely shitting myself, as it was about 6am on a public holiday and nobody was around and I had no idea where the nearest petrol station was, and I THINK running out of fuel on the motorway is an offence in austria, it is in germany.

Pulled off the autobahn and drove to the nearest town, and found what i thought was a petrol station, but turned out to be a bio diesel place. Breaking into a cold sweat by now and driving with absolutely minimal acceleration through empty towns at about 6.30am, but somehow i kept ending up at this fucking huge lidl or aldi or something.

Eventually, came across a shell station hidden away in a small village. And to top it all, they spoke perfect english!

The lesson - don't fanny around with the fuel light in places you're not familiar with.

... Or if you do, learn to speak german.
