Hey guys,

Anyone got any pics of their gear lever surround and gaitor?

I bought a leather one with aluminium surround last week from the local motorist centre, but when I went to put it on I found a 4cm gap (lengthways), even though it said it was for a mera. Maybe for N16, or possibly supposed to mod the original gaitor???

Anyway, was just wondering what people have done, and maybe where you got it?

Cheers
Dave

haha,i had that problem when i got mine, it was a polished richbrook one and was completely the wrong shape. Dunno if it's the same as yours like

What i had to do was pull off the rubber gaitor, and pull out the standard plastic section, if i remember right i had to butcher the rubber gaitor and hack off the excess, so there was basically a black skin covering the hard plastic shell.

Then i had to place the polished rim ontop of this, and screw it down into the hard plastic shell. and that looks perfect! i put my black mesh gaitor on but it was too flaccid and just slid down the stick (it was cheap and wasnt a screwy on one lol) so i bought a shit PVC one (with a bit more rigidity) and stuck it under neath!

bingo! gaitor + surround

Granted it's bodged, and i have no idea how its done properly, but it looks perfect, and was the only way i could see of making it fit!

hope that helps

Cheers mate, I thought it might be something along those lines. I'm gonna have a look around the scrapies for another standard one today... save me screwing mine up and not having a spare.

Thanks again.

no probs! post some pics when you've finished it, it is a good mod, i think the standard gaitor's horrible, and this small change helps your interior loads! i agree that the gaitor surrounds advertised as almera fitments are clearly not like, but a bit of bodging sounds good! if ya cant find a scrapped one you can easily mod yours without fear of messing it up, just concentrate and ill be okay.
