Gearbox earth strap

Been reading that the earth strap on the N16 2.2 DCi can come loose or break. Could someone clarify exactly where on the gearbox I will find this.
Does the other end go to the battery or bodywork?

Ok, joking aside, what I should have asked is:

I have very limited space to crawl about under the car and I will not be able to remove the splash guard.
Is there a way of visually inspecting the earth strap from a certain angle whilst the car is on the ground? i.e. not jacked up or on ramps

Managed to peek through one of the gaps in the bottom splash guard and spotted a broken connection to the gearbox earth.
The spade connector is still attached to the gearbox, but the cable has broken clean where it attached to the spade connector.
I'm guessing that this cable doesn't lead straight to the battery negative, as only one cable is attached to the battery and the car starts and runs fine.
The questions are:

1) Where does it terminate?
2) Is it worth just getting my local garage to solder another connector on to the same cable?
3) Should I just buy a new cable and do it myself? i.e. Is it an easy enough job?

I think it goes to the chassis. I bought iirc a new 10" strap which was a little short, so 15" or so should be fine.
This made the world of difference to my Di, when i owned it. Much better economy and performance.

Do you remember if the battery tray had to be removed to gain access to the termination point?
The lead from the battery disappears under the tray, but it's difficult to see or feel where it terminates.
The reason I'm trying to be really specific, is that I will be doing this outside with the current crap weather, and time will be of the essence. Don't wanna be removing stuff if I don't need to.
Might just get my local garage to solder another connector on if weather is too bad :(

This is the next job I have planned on mine along with full earthing kit from my old N16.

Gonna add a second engine to chassis earth cable for peace of mind. Has anyone done this on a DCi before. If so, from where to where?

How about using one of the bolt holes for the engine lift bracket point.
Would that be suitable to bolt an earthing cable to, then direct to the neg on the battery?
