General Almera question

I think the fact there isn't a fast N16 has something to do with it. The fastest one you can get is a diesel.

I personally also prefer the styling of the N15 to the 16.

The N16 isn't as reliable as the N15 as well, and as Hally said, there isn't a hot one.

I blame the Renault input.

Yeah Nissan really missed a trick with not releasing a GTi N16. I supposed it's been the trend in the UK though. N14 ya got a GTi-R > N15 no GTi-R but GTi > N16 not even a GTi but a 1.8 'Sport'... sucks. But with some modding the N16 can be hot.

Proper 90's Nissan, engine, looks, build quality, performance possibilities, bit of a Q car.....the list goes on.

Im sure the N16 has it's Pro's too.....but Im yet to see any.

It doesn't help that the 1.8 in the N16 is horribly lethargic. The 1.6 in the N15 performs better.

Well I've had both. N16 1.8 sport and N15 GTi. The N16 felt better built, nicer quality, lots of clever touches, and more comfy. N15 feels more raw, quicker and sporty but also more plasticky and more prone to corrosion. Anything else you want to know dont hesitate to ask.

gotta agree with people on teh N15 front, much prefer the looks and the reliabilty ona 10 year old car is outstanding. Only fail ive had on mine is the engine mounts and at 117k thats to be expected. Only things that go wrong are general wearing parts.

Still very much in love with N15s and im yet to even get a GTi.

When a £900 quid SRi beats a £4000 fiesta it puts a smile on your face, same can be said with the GTi from what i hear. Cant really complain at the performance for the money can ya

I originally set out to buy a N15 Precision, si or sri, but ended up buying a N16 sport+

I found both the 1.6 and 1.8 to be good, but i'd agree the 1.8 not that punchy below 4000rpm and then all the power kicks in. wheras the 1.6 is much smoother

I personally think both N15 and N16 look good in the right spec.

Nissan didn't make a N16 GTI cause Mr renault said they should stop making reliable quick hatches, drop the almera completely and make a range of cars that all look the same and do the same thing.

Hey!

I think its quite common opinion that the N15 is better when it comes to power, reliability etc etc.

The n16, however, does feel like a much more modern car, the N15 can feel a bit outdated sometimes.

It all comes down to what you're wanting really...

PS: N16MERA, what is the engine in your dp? why does it look... strange?

Its meant to be a QG18DE from a N16 i think.

Its got bits cut out so you can see inside, thats why it looks strange.

Yeah think its a cat, stupid things ehh

I've been meaning to put a piccy of my car on so this is a good reason too:lol:

You all quite rightly mention that Nissan haven't made a fast N16 model. The most powerful diesel is 134 BHP. Not exactly blistering performance, but with a tuning unit added it takes it up to around 160 BHP. These cost anything from around £120 - £400 and make the car just that little bit more eye opening to drive. The mid-range torque pull is a real buzz and it pisses corsa drivers off when you burn them off at the lights because lets face it the N16 looks like a grandad mobil. Mines a Spider unit (£375) and has the benefit of adapting to your style of driving. I had it dyno tested and the 0-60 was 8 dead,161 BHP and top speed 130. Although the ESP is meant to be a safety device, it means you can take corners fast without the worry of ending up in a farmers field.

For me, I prefer the looks, second the SR20DE potential but I've taken it to whole extreme so now there's $$$ in it I gotta like! hehe! Others have taken boat out with GA16DE. When it comes to it, depends how much you wanna spend to bring up performance.

I wanted a N15 GTi but I could not get insured on it thats why I brought the N16 (I was 18 at the time). I still really like the N15's

N15's all the way had my GTI for bank on 6 years i think got it in 2001

driven loads of almeras personaly dont rate the N16 at all, from the offset when they first came out the amoubnt of problems with them was stupid

things like:

hand brake recalls
cam and crank sensors recall
head light faults

and thats just a few from memory

i dont think there are many other nissans that i would go out and buy, probs only the older Xtrail and the new navara, but even them of the treaded renault input
