GTi running hot??

As above only really noticed it today, but i noticed a slight hot engine smell - not burning. coming from my heaters Could be because my air freshener needs replacing!

I popped the hood to see if there was any smoke under there nothing! I'm just wondering if the GTis run quite hot - it probably isn't as my temperature gauge is fine at just half way but I never see the fans come on either? which bugs me.

I did check on the SR20DE forum and they say that they rarely do come on if in idle traffic - is this true?

I'm probably just getting para as water temperature is always ok but the fan bugs me!

My fans came on after about 5-10 mins of idling on the drive, while I was faffing about in the garage, leave yours running for a few mins & see what happens.

As for the smell, it could be summat you`ve driven over has got stuck on the exhaust (a plastic bag or such like), & is giving off the pong as it melts.

Have a look-see for anything that shouldn`t be there.

Hope this helps.

Cheers mate - oh yeah i have been spraying WD40 on my rusted bolts on cat trying to get it off! don't think it was that though! I think i imagined the smoke! it was a bright suny morning and it was quite hazy outside!
No probs

Its the Wd40 on the exhaust, i did the same on my manifold bold and forgot t clean it off. Took a good few miles to get rid of the smoke and stench haha, i pulled up outside my mates and he thought my car was on fire.

All sounds pretty normal to me. No amount of WD will shift those cat bolts!...get the grinder out!

Cheers Rowdy! I thought all was ok. But you know sometimes we just get paranoid about our cars!

I didn't want to hear that about cat bolts!!! ok so its off topic but better than starting new thread
- What about using some heat - blow torch - I will only do this as last resort

don't really want to get grinder out. I'll continue with the WD40 for a bit and hammer whacking on bolt! I plan is to get a SS tubular header and down pipe and fit the decat to that so it can be fitted all as one. I only have to remove the 2 cat bolts nearer the back then and the manifold bolts. I tried the manifold bolts and they are ok to undo just these blasted cat bolts!
Any tips??

Cheers

Karl

Those bolts just corrode into the bracket making it impossible to remove them. Everyone has your trouble getting them off.....you may be lucky....heat may help.

The hanger/bracket may be fooked as well.......and thats £30 from nissan. I`d order one now.

thanks for the reassurance - looked at that hanger and looks like its been welded/rusted to a cat bolt

Cheers for the help will update my members ride section if/when i get it fitted!
