Gti strut on non gti

Nooooooooooooo! Having just bought a strut bar off andrewn15, Spent the best part of 6 hours stripping the paint, sanding and polishing it wnet to chuck it on and it doesnt fit!! there isnt enough of the bolt sticking out to go through the thickest part of the mount, Its around 7mm short - Considered milling the plate down but there isnt going to be a lot of materal left on it.

Its a 1.4 gx and I have a few options...

Mill it down

Get GTi Shocks

Wait until i get a gti (1 or 2 years)

also, im considering getting a 1.6 si/sri would these have the same shocks as mine does now?

thanks.

always pays to do some research fella...........i have heard of people milling them down to fit tho........

I might as a side project get some more mounting plates made up, test some autocad skills, could include some funky lettering or something :)

Will look into costs.. shouldnt be much if i do all the cad work i suppose

Dam mate,I told him that it would only fit a non GTi when I sold it to him!
Thats the reason I sold it in the first place as it was off my old 1.4L action.
I didnt know the GX had the same problem?

Just sell it mate, not worth the hassle really :(

Dont be put off by that!!
Get a hacksaw and cut the inner bolt mount off the strut brace. It takes about 5 mins to do. So what you have left is a mount that sits on top of the existing nut. The brace is held on by the 2 outer nuts on each side. If you look at the OMP brace, its held on by only 2 bolts too. And to get it to fit properly, you'd need GTi top mounts.

The top mounts are all that differs between GTi and non-GTi models with regards to fitting strut braces. So if you got an SRi it would still need to be milled down or have GTi top mounts. Other than that, a rear brace will also bolt straight onto any 3 door N15.
