Handbrake Warning Light When Cornering & Accelerating

Hi Guys,
I'm new to this forum, thanks in advance for any advice.

I have an N16 5-Door. When I am cornering, especially left turns, and accelerating away from a stop, the handbrake light comes on.

I have check the brake fluid level, which is in the middle of MIN and MAX, my brake pads are also good.

The hand brake lever doesn't seem loose, it feels just fine.

The light seems to stay on longer when I accelerate away from a stop hard (or as hard as you can in a standard 1.5l :D).

Any ideas what may be up?

Thanks.

just a thought out the blue cos a had a problem with mine too, but was low fluid..someone suggested that something may have fallin inside where the sensor is at ???

just a random thought

Actually that is a possibility, I'll have to check into that. that would mean taking out the centre console. Thanks for the advice.

yeah its a possible dodgy earth on the handbrake switch on the base of the lever. top your fluid up to max anyway dude, may be that acceleration and cornering may be enough to trigger the light for low fluid :)

Noooo you should never have to top up your brake fluid. If its low, then the pads are low or there's a leak somewhere. Worst thing when your in the garage is pushing the caliper back and realising some fool has topped it up and brake fluid goes everywhere!

If the pads are fine and there's no leak, it can only be a dodgy switch on the handbrake or the sensor on the brake fluid reservoir is at fault.

lol

This happends on mine too. I am not 100% sure what it is when I got over a big puddle it normally stays on for a while. I ripped the hand brake cover surrond off and had a look at the switch. from what I can see there is not much chance that hand brake switch can move or turn on. I could not be bothered with it lol.

Mine came on once, when i was driving through flooded roads, it was only on dimmly. it stayed on for a day but got more and more dim so i guessed it was a dodgy earth. I disconnected the level switch connector on the reservoir and it went out so i dried the connector and the light went out:)

Might be worth a go

I've had this problem for a couple of weeks. Rear pads were worn right down and fronts only have a month or two left in them.

New pads sorted the problem.
