Hi Everyone,
I need some words of wisdom on wiring and headlights.
I have a Phase 1 (2000)N16 and have just bought some Phase 2 Headlight units. Physically they fit but the conectors on the wiring loom are different. Nissan tell me that the connectors are not available as a separate item from the loom. Here's the question - Anyone know which wires do what and how to connect the to the Phase 2 units.
Thanks :)

Its pretty easy to figure it out. Look inside the phase 1 and match the wires to the phase 2.

the wires should be colour coded. if not then try using a multi meter and testing the wires and resolder them together.

the phase 2 lifts fit but requires some cutting some where.

at the risk of upsetting you mate, stick wit the original headlights. i work in a nissan dealership, and ive lost count of the N16 headlights we've had problems with under warranty, they might look a little better, but believe me they are not.

I heard there was a recall on the head lights on the Phase 2

if there was it must have been very early phase 2's but not that i can remeber. its definaltely a common problem though,

Thanks

Well thanks for the replys. I,ve now had a good look at this promblem and yes I think I've got burned. For future reference to anyone else thinking of doing this here's what I've found:
The electical connectors are different for both supply to the lights and pitch adjustment. New connectors are not available separatly form the engine bay loom. This could be over come with some basic soldering skills and a new connctor but it gets worse.
The indicator bulb holder on phase 1 has a 3 prong retaining arrangement. The phase 2 socket is designed for a 4 prong holder.
The final killer for the upgrade(???!!) is that it would require the removal of the steelwork currently separating the main lighting unit from the independent indicator unit. This web is directly below the bump plug on which the bonnet rests. Removal may therefore compomise the support of the rather heavy bonnet.
My advise to anyone thinking of this is think twice. If anyone does want to have a go, I know where you can pick up a pair of units!! (from a 2005 rearend rightoff I was told).

Don't expect many takers though. :(

Very Nice!!!!
But at £400 a bit pricey. I got the Phase 2's off ebay for £70. Mind you that does put me £70 out of pocket!!!

Oh dear! The penny has just dropped after reading Stu's post again.
The lights I bought arrived packaged in a Nissan box. The right box for these lights! They are definitely used, and are complete with bulbs and dead flys. Me thinks the is a distinct possiblity that I have bought units changed out under warranty

Anyone know if there is any way of telling if they are flawed? I would hate to sell them on if they were.
