Heated door mirrors?

I seem to have read conflicting details about this, so thought I'd ask...

I have a 2004 Almera Tino, SE spec, everything else seems electric (ie windows, sunroof, aircon and climate, mirrors at least move electrically...).

The handbook lists them (as heated) as being optional equipment. Not yet had chance to really try / prove that they are heated - so should they be?

And if so (like most other cars) they come on with the heated rear window button?

Seems inconclusive.

I suppose if I wanted to take out the glass in the mirrors, it would be more revealling, but I'd rather not bother unless I have to, because these things seem to be easily spoilt in terms of clips, wires, or glass being broken.

One of my reasons for asking, is that the other day, I had the climate unit demisting the front windscreen, and the rear demister also on.

Once clear, as I looked in my nearside wing mirror before setting off, I noticed that there was a clear area in a sort of circular or stretched circular / elliptical shape on it, which looked clearer than the outside of that area. That must have just happened, because I would have noticed in previously glancing in that mirror. I didn't notice it on the drivers side - but then the drivers side may not have had condensation to the same degree.

It kind of made me think something was heating it. When I get chance I could always test - but it's normally much more apparent when they are either really fogged up, or have ice / frost on them.

I had read stuff about them - probably here, and probably the thread you linked to - previously, which is why I largely thought it was unlikely my car had them. Odd, in this day and age, though, because I don't remember having a car with electric mirrors, previously, that also weren't heated (unless the element / wiring was borked). I wonder about a car I had around 97 / 98 that had electric mirrors that maybe weren't heated (96 / 97 Polo saloon, L trim level) but they may well have been - they moved electrically, which was the highlight of the model spec, really, because I think the windows were manual, and pretty sure there was no central locking.

Some models seem to be electrical only and no heating element added. The real clue is the plug going from the door to your mirror. There should be three wires instead of 4. If this is the case, you can install a heated mirror.

Edit:

Correction + typo's

Hi! I have an Almera N16 with 3 wires (in the mirror), looking into the manual the relay B6 (connector 7) and ground will do the trick... I don't know if in the Tino is similar... anybody has tried it?

Following up to my own post, here, but pretty sure mine doesn't have heated mirrors.

There's been plenty of frosty weather in the past week, and I've not seen the slightest hint of any heating going on. What I noticed that looked as if something had cleared a circular section, earlier, must have been wishful thinking.

Something of a shame, really, first car I've had in probably 10-15 years that's not had heated mirrors, especially with such relatively decent spec as is.
