Heavy coolant leak query / what's the thing that the rad hoses fit to?

Hi there, I'm having an issue with my ex's Almera with the 1.5 twin cam petrol engine it's a 2001 model on a Y plate. It sprung a leak and lost a couple of pints of coolant which was splashing from either side of the gearbox housing and I've checked both hoses are unsplit and jubilee clips are secure. I'm assuming the leak is coming from the alloy cast that the radiator hoses connect to, is this the waterpump or a large thermostat housing? I'd have thought the pump would be driven from a pully at the front of the block but was dark when I popped over and I'd like to order the correct item(s) next time I'm with the car in hope or to have a good chance at repairing it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks, yes it's the gearbox side, I've just looked up a picture of the thermostat housing and that's what I'm guessing is the source of the leak. I could just try to reseal it to the head and have a closer look as the heater hose clips on the back of it. I doubt the actual cast alloy itself is cracked in anyway. Thanks very much for your help, I appreciate it's dumb question given it's not on a belt/crank driven side of the engine, but I only had a quick glance as I filled the rad up so she could drive it for the half mile back home.

It's not a dumb question,it's better to be safe and sorry ordering the wrong part's.If it's not the rad pipe going to it leaking,it's either the housing cracked or it as you says need's resealing again.Take it off to visually inspect it.Pointless resealing it only for it to be cracked.
